Well, I figured out why some of my drawings were looking grainy. I was using heavy-toothed watercolor paper instead of paper made for sketching and drawing. I noticed that when I was at my sister's house and saw some of her wonderful pencil portraits. So my wife and I went to Michaels, took advantage of a sale, and got myself a new drawing pad. What a difference! Since I have done so much in digital I didn't even think I could have been using a more challenging paper to draw on. So I am happy with my new paper. Here is a sketch of Puss-N-Boots to get the feel of the new paper. I am happy with the results!
