Description Mr. H.P. Lovecraft finds out that not even he can get away from Great Cthulhu's warm Valentine's Day hug...

I know Valentine's Day is long gone already, but only now I had the time to colour this ^^"
The idea was quite random. I was waiting for the start of lesson and listened the HPL Historical Society's "A Shoggoth on the Roof" songs from my MP3-player, when I suddenly was inspired. And Valentine's Day being near back then, I just had to do this. Sometimes randomness pays off well.

Heh, oh yeah, I fell in love with that musical when I first popped it in my CD-player and the first song started to play. "Who day and night must slumber in R'lyeh..?"
Now that's one darn musical I sure as heck would go to see if it ever hit the theatres ^^

XDDD it's adorable.

Actually, the first I ever heard of Lovecraft was when I saw the lyrics to Tentacles in a journal by . I looked up the song, and was instantly hooked. (I knew all the words to Tentacles before I even started reading Lovecraft).

Heh, thank you ^^
I myself was introduced to Lovecraft and Cthulhu by over time, first thanks go to the gaming artictle abotu the original Alone in the Dark. Eventually, when I was older and looking for some horror books for my bro, I found some Lovecraft books. And I got hooked to them ^^" The HPLHS song-CDs I tried out of a quirk, and bam, instantly hooked again. I remember most of the songs by heart by now, along with some of their Scary Solstice Carols. Got to love those people ^^

...there's nobody who plays the games around here D: it makes me so sad.

Oh, yes. HPLHS people are geniuses. What especially astounds me is that on "I saw Mommy Kissing Yog-Sothoth," there's a line about looking "just like his picture on page 751." According to Dunwich Horror (I think. I read it in one of the stories, I think it was that one) there's actually a picture of Yog-Sothoth on the aforesaid page.

Aww...

Heh, oh yesh, the HPLHL folk have done their Cthulhu studies, so you may find interesting little details in their songs. I also love their movies and story CDs, I can't wait to see how the "Whisperer in the Dark" turns out ^^ And I should buy more of those story CDs when I get money. "At the Mountains of Madness" left be breathless. The Tekelili-sound effect they made in it still haunts and intrigues me.

It's easier to do the search for your hobbies you like - unlike some school stuff you must do ^^"

I think their site has a list of the things they've done. Their story CDs should also include Shadow out of Time and Dunwich Horror, and I think they had yet one more, perhaps more. And they have another movie coming, Whisperer in the Darkness I think.
I should check their progress too.

I've never actually heard anything of theirs other than Shoggoth and some of the carols, but I'm trying to start a game of Cthulhu Lives in my vague area.

Are the story CDs like radio plays?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Selene-Eclipse In reply to HookSilverSparrow [2009-11-21 11:40:49 +0000 UTC]

We actually have a short RPG of Cthulhu going on in our RPG club at the moment, though it's almost at the end. But I sure as heck will try to find some Call of Cthulhu RPG books fo myself since I'd love to try playing a long campaign some day with it.

Yup, as far as I know (basing this on At the Mountains of Madness), the stor yCDs are played like radio plays, as if it was an old radio show during Lovecraft's own time that reads the works aloud and sort of "acts" it with voice, radio effects and multiple "voice actors", if yo ucan call them that (^^"). If I had to describe an example, I'd name it to be done in similar way as the original "War of thr Worlds" which was read on the radio.
The HPLHS added even more atmosphere by putting in their own made "photos" and "scrab book pieces" and "newspaper cuttings" they've made in great resemblance of the same things that were done and used in the possible time the read story takes place. It all adds to the atmosphere ^^

Oh dear, quite a long reply here ^^" I can never tell of things shortly...

That's AWESOME. I don't live anywhere near an RPG club T_T One of the things that I really want to try (and am trying to get my friends to read Lovecraft in order to facilitate this) is a correspondence RP, that would fall along the lines of The Whisperer in Darkness (did I already say this?)

Oh, that's AWESOME! I love full cast recordings, I'll definitely have to see if any library in my area has some of them
<erpetually broke>
I didn't know about the clippings and stuff! I have looked at their free prop docs and fonts (in fact, if you looked at my Latin homework, I'm sure you'd recognize the majority of the fonts I use).

Long replies are great! I tend to say things concisely, but occasionally I'll start rambling on about something and by the time I'm done explaining the backstory I won't remember what I started with.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Selene-Eclipse In reply to HookSilverSparrow [2009-11-24 19:17:16 +0000 UTC]

No, you didn't mention it. Heh, a friend of mine has actually done such a correspondent thing, with post cards if I remember right. He's always doing cool stuff like that XD

Heh, I' malso pretty much broke at the moment, which is why I had to leave Dunwich Horror to the shelf of the shop *weeps* It's one the stories my bro and I favour (though his ultimate favourite is At the Mountains of Madness, while I tend to favour Herbert West - Reanimator).
The clippings and the other stuff come along when you buy the CD, they're even described in the backside of the CD ^^

Oh yes, I know the problem. I love describing and telling of things, especially if they're related to my characters. Talk often waves back and forth when you start a topic ^^"

Ah, Herbert West. I am so in love with him. Although not as much as I am with the fishpeople.

AWESOME.

Yeah. I'm one of those people who, when trying to tell a story, will go on and on, trying to get the description of the lighting right.

I should've been more clear about it myself, but now I must thank you for letting me know of that link. I've been hearing about Lovecraft's works being on the net somewhere but never had the time to seek it out myself. So thank you a lot, this will come in handy when looking for the stories I still don't have ^^
Now I might be able to buy that one book with At the Mountains of Maddness in it. It had other stories I already had as well, but since the book also had Epitome of Randolph Carter and the Case of Charles Dexter Ward in it, so I had to leave it out since I was afraid I might end up taking the book for myself just because I didn't have those two stories yet in the books I already had ^^"

it's in 'the loved dead' somewhere. XD. The ymm-braa made me pause for a sec - I don't mind undead thingies, and I don't mind cyborgs and similar stuff. (ghost in the shell rocks!)But combine the two and it gets freaky. Odd for me to say though.
