There are 11, counting the newest prototypes (which are all nutjobs due to their unstable genetic setup in favor of power). That being said, Gen-10 had two versions, as the first one was a bit of a failure due to a lot of nutjobs there as well, and NA had to overhaul the concept before they made a second version.
Also, the oldest generation still in active service (officially) is Gen-9, of which aren't that many left...well, they are all 120+ now anyway, like Lono XD
And of Gen-8, only a handful is still alive, but the only have been called back into combat because NA was very short on staff for a while (due to the Gen-10 failure). They are not compatible with the nanites for example, though other upgrades might be possible.
And I'm glad you like the old lady

By far not all of mine are even mentioned by name or described in the story. I actually did this to avoid repetitiveness, as some of the models might look somewhat similar or have similar abilities, since for each type, a certain genetic setup is developed. I only turned a certain amount of them into more than just background characters, to serve as examples and keystones to give the story a little more depth. I believe I only ever developed/named close to 40 of them and gave them distinctive abilities and a personal skillset, and of those 40, not all appear in my novel (a few only make an appearance in sidestories), and of the rest, only a couple get enough "screentime" to work on even more in-depth.
That being said, it was hard enough to keep things somewhat original between them, given the similarities they are supposed to share after all.

But yeah, since her current General is fond of the oldtimers, they get to do the less atrocious stuff if possible, and if they're not needed, they can do their own thing^^

Do you write chapter for chapter or a rough summary first or as the mood strikes you?
π: 0 β©: 1
Seminon In reply to Panartias [2018-01-16 00:51:15 +0000 UTC]
The first version was just born from the imminent urge to write again way over 10 years ago, but since then, I've played with it, and by now, I do have a rough summary that is still in development for the final version. It's under construction as I plan out the chapters more closely, since I want to give it my best shot now and bring in everything I learned about storytelling in the meantime.^^

Seminon In reply to Panartias [2018-01-23 13:31:26 +0000 UTC]
Indeed it does. I also went back to the next interation of my novel, plunging myself into working out the details and chapters more closely. It's a lot of 'debugging' and closing potential plot holes before they can wreak havoc on the entire thing.^^
God, the first and second arc alone have around 80 chapters....and there's still the third arc which I'm not done with. XD

How long are your chapters on average?
π: 0 β©: 1
Panartias In reply to Seminon [2018-01-23 17:01:09 +0000 UTC]
Did I get that one right? 80 chapters per story arch and beween 20 and 30 pages... Ok lets go with 20, then we have 1600 page for a story arch - that one huge book. So how many Story archs? 3 ? or 7 ? you put GoT to shame with that!Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Seminon In reply to Panartias [2018-01-24 01:39:55 +0000 UTC]
No, around 80 chapters are the first and second arc together. I haven't worked out the number of chapters I need for the third, so I can't tell the final number yet. And no, it's just 3 arcs XD
It's likely though that I split it into 3 books, if it gets too long, although having it all in one huge book would be nice too~

π: 0 β©: 1
Seminon In reply to Panartias [2018-01-24 17:09:24 +0000 UTC]
I did already do that. That's partially what my iterations are for. First the rough summary, then more details and calculating how much fits into one chapter, and when it is a good idea to make a cut or switch to another scene elsewhere. And with every iteration, the details are worked out better and plotholes are stuffed.^^

Seminon In reply to Panartias [2018-01-24 23:12:11 +0000 UTC]
I know, otherwise you end up with more work eventually. I used to just start writing and see what comes out of my pen, but once I decided to write this more seriously and saw it would turn out rather long, I immediately came up with a system. I do that for all of my stories, and it really helps.

I usually stick to short stuff - like these:Β
Unusual Ways to Fight MonstersI give you this mini-sequel of several unusual, but not totally serious ways to fight D&D monsters (written in character). I hope you enjoy the read β and feel free to contribute!
How to Fight Red Dragons:
The person who slays a dragon β especially a red one β is often celebrated as a hero. In my opinion, the killing of a single dragon is β apart from the danger to your own life β quite futile and ineffective. In the long run, the most effective way to decimate a species is to diminish its food source. As everybody knows, red dragons eat virgins.
Iβm sure you will agree with me, that this kind of dragon-slaying is much less dangerous and more importantly, much more fun. Okay, itβs not totally without bloodshed - but most men are already proficient with the necessary βweaponsβ. Letβs take up the fight and conquer the red dragons together.Β Iβm convinced there is a hero in every one of us!

In my case, even shorter stuff turns out somewhat long. Like my side novel. It was based on a really long and complex dream I had in January 2006, and I'm preparing a reprise. It's only planned to be around 22 chapters long though, so no comparison to my main novel XD

Which awesomeness? XD
No, it's just that back then from early age on, everything I picked up turned into a chore, since my family was always like: "Practice a lot, you can get popular and make lots of money!" Like when I played on my grandma's guitar for fun as a preschool kid, she gave me my own guitar for next Christmas and from there on, they all pressured me into a minimum of practice everyday, when I had to practice (if I wanted to do or have something specific, like a condition), and it demotivated me even before the real lessons began. Plus, I could never experiment and try what I wanted, since I liked to create my own little pieces...this shit dragged on forΒ more than 6 years until I could finally drop it.
Same with writing, drawing or anything I did. "You could publish this, you're gonna get famous!" Always with this greedy look in their eyes, and the notion that I could get the fame they never could. That's also why I didn't even try to sing in front of them...I didn't want this to go to shit as well.
Couple all of that 'good never is good enough', and you know why I'm my own harshest critic. I'm still working hard to get this out of my system.
(Sorry if this sounds like I'm whining, but I needed to elaborate on this to make it understandable).
