Description I'm guessing this is the final pic, I'll play around with it more, but it's maybe the turning point in my style. Or not.

Laurana, from the Dragonlance novels. No one painted women the way Larry Elmore painted them, and I was trying to emulate his style just a little.

Painted in PS. Background referenced from my backyard one summer night.

If you would like to see the stages of painting this you can watch it in this YouTube video: [link]

lol Interesting! You can tell your friend she looks a little like Bridget Bardo, I used her as a partial reference (Elmore I think used Bardo as a 100% reference).

Thank you. Hopefully one day it gets the animated or live-action treatment it deserves, eh?

Thank you very much, I went a lot more realistic with this piece than with others, probably by being less detailed - and the compliment means a lot coming from you, you've got some very fine artwork in your gallery.

i love the way you captured that mysterious expression on her face. her hair is perfect and i love the color. quick note here, and this is just my opinion, but i think her left arm kinda throws off the flow of the piece...her face brings you to the right shoulder and your eye follows the right arm, suggesting a soft, subtle sweep...the left one just seems a little out of place...perhaps closer to the body or straight or in front of the body maybe...idk...im just tossing ideas at you. of course, you might disagree entirely. just attempting to offer something other than 'great job'...even tho it is lovely

Well thank you; I think you're right about the arm, maybe the trouble stems from the way that it looks like it's a side view of her but it's really a 3/4 side and back view that's obscured by the cloak. The original photo works well, it just doesn't work as well the way I dressed her up. Actually, I experimented with cropping the pic a little while ago, and I cut out much of the left arm because I wasn't happy with the glove. Maybe I should go with that version instead. Hmmmm... I'm gonna think about it, and I appreciate the advice.

Thank you so much, I'm pretty happy with this piece (but still working away at little things with it, lol).

Have a safe and relaxing holiday too!

Wow nice! The face and hair are outstanding, and I really like the composition. Been a huge DL fan since the late 80's, I've actually been working on a painting of Raistlin for a while now.

Thanks very much, that's a big compliment, especially after the amount of time I spent trying to get the hair right... man there were a lot of crummy attempts before this one...
