Description 静夜思
唐.李白
床前明月光,
疑是地上霜.
举头望明月,
低头思故乡.

--------------
This is a gift for a dear old family friend from Edmonton. He helped treat me when I had kidney problems, made me drink nasty smelling Chinese herbal medecine (sweetened by lots and lots of honey), and now I'm all better thanks to him.

I'm glad people are still in touch with those old poems
I wonder if Li Bai was goodlooking.... *weird thought*

I thought of the poem even before clicking large view. Think how much skill the artist has, that this artwork is able to transfer the atmosphere by itself.

And OMG, the texture, the atmosphere in this...WOW! *__*!!!! This is GORGEOUS!! It really does remind me of one of those old paintings that would be hanging in a museum or something TT. So beautiful...*FAVES*

I just used the hardish watercolour brush for the little details and the softish watercolour brush for the rest.
eerm, I have it as an oci file, but I'm not sure how to get the event file @_@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fishnbacon In reply to seppy [2006-07-10 22:21:42 +0000 UTC]

um, for the event file, go open your .oci file and go to event tab, there will be an option that says "save"
click on that and it'll save you a .oe4 file.

Send meh that file! *____*

seppy In reply to fishnbacon [2006-07-10 22:27:29 +0000 UTC]

eeh..it won't let me. I see the save, but i can't press it. It works if I open a new file though. Strange.
I don't think you want the event file anyway. I sorta switched it to a psd file half way (ahahaah... )

O..M..G
lol Sorry, I'm just so excited to meet someone who's interested in Chinese culture (even the poems) here on DA! You are just so talented, not only your skills, but your ability to convey emotions such as in this picture.
It's gorgeous...those mountains alone are so impressive, let alone the figure in the foreground.

gah!! *is glomped*
I feel so lucky having a Chinese background. I mean, I can actually watch and understand all those awesome Chinese tv shows and speak the same language as 1 billion other ppl My dad made me memorize a bunch of chinese poems when I was young, but I've forgotten most except for the really famous ones. They're so hard to understand sometimes >.<

CarinaT In reply to seppy [2006-07-16 05:38:18 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you're so lucky that your dad is passionate enough to make you study poems (when you were young). I have to bug my parents all the time to teach me this and that.
That's nice how you even remember some! I reckon it's so impressive to be able to recite Chinese poems - they sound so cool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seppy In reply to CarinaT [2006-07-25 19:38:33 +0000 UTC]

yeah, my dad can recite like every poem you can name. I like Chinese proverbs too, although I don't really know that many. They keep popping up in adult conversations, and I just nod and smile like I understand XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarinaT In reply to seppy [2006-07-29 06:24:00 +0000 UTC]

Those proverbs and 4-word things...you know what I'm talking about! They sound so impressive - I could quote them all day and slip them in every situation if I could understand them all. lol
That's right...if you don't understand - just smile and nod...and everything's fine.

seppy In reply to CarinaT [2006-07-31 19:55:53 +0000 UTC]

My dad bought a huge dictionary full of proverbs. So...many...@_@ And they all have their own story behind them. I can't imagine anyone being able to remember them all, but I bet they exist. I think I need to spend a year or two living in china, so I can improve (and i need it desperately)

Thinking of studying abroad in China?

Probably not studying, maybe I'll try teaching English, even though it seems a bit farfetched It'd be wonderful to have a job in China for the summer while also improving my Chinese ^^

In cantonese is it 'wan ju gaak gaak'? I've heard of it but never really watched it myself!
I LOVE Journey To The West or 'Sai yau gei'

seppy In reply to CarinaT [2006-08-31 08:08:24 +0000 UTC]

yesyes, I think that's it! It was very very very popular when it came out. Anyways, the series I'm watching now has most of the actors from huan ju gaak gaak in it. Do you watch a hong kong made journey to the west, or the one from mainland china? There it's called Xi You Ji ^^

wow this looks awesome...
i love the bg.. really amazing.. ur digital painting's improving like MAD!! u gotta show/explain to me how u did that bg.. looks great, just like a chinese painting :3
love the touch of texture too DD
some critiques: the hand looks a bit small.. or rather it seems u put little effort compared to like the bg hahahaha~~ and the lines for those uh.. frame windows/doors/ceiling decroations.. w/e hahaha the lineart seems a bit scratchy rofl.. but other than that.. this is great ^^b

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seppy In reply to Chibi-Mitsukai [2006-07-09 04:47:45 +0000 UTC]

aaaahh!! You're right, the hand is still too small. eheh, well, vertically it's too long...i forgot to measure it the other way XD nothing escapes you
Yeah, you can so tell I ignored the person, sketch and colouring wise (mr. no face). I wanted more focus on the background (those mountains were so hard to colour right >.< )
hohohoho, you won't believe how scratchy the lattice work is without all the texture and blur to cover it up. This is just a small look into my chaotic world of "inking"!! BAHAHHAHA!! Mr. no face was pretty sketchy too

Come over again and I'll show you my ultra secret technique!! *COUGH* Before you go prancing off to university, we must have another get together
*sniff* we didn't win the contest this year. ah well, I'm still going to D-World, and you're off tanning your hide in hawaii, so it's all good
