Description I grew up reading a comic strip called Footrot Flats. Dog, the main character, is the reason I wanted a border collie so much and even named my first puppy Jess, after Dog's girlfriend in the comic.

I couldn't find a decent size drawing of Dog that would be suitable for a wallpaper, so I drew one.

Footrot Flats is (c) Murray Ball.

Great drawing! I grew up reading Footrot Flats. I used to cut the comic strips out of the paper and paste them into scrap books. I still have All the comic books!

Dog's true name is unrevealed, as he doesn't like to use it nor does he want others to use it.

Just as Sonic's real name is Maurice Wentworth (maybe a last name), but he doesn't like it.

I haven't seen any of this strip, because it's not carried in the USA, due to its subject matter being unsuitable to our papers.

Dog sex, animal slaughter... Australians seem to be crude and feral in these matters.

And the comic strip was about life on a farm. It helps to get your facts straight before throwing out judgemental statements like that.

I was aware of that -as implied in the phrase "animal slaughter". My grandfather told me of "killing day" on some farm where he lived or worked. (A lot of my family history was lost when it went unrecorded when those who had such died without getting to tell me, and before 1865, ALL was lost.)where the animals get culled down to next year's starting stock.

I also recall the following lines from centuries past:

"At MartinMas I kill my swine,

and at Christmas I drink red wine."

i.e.: In November, the culling of farm animals to a manageable number and to have food for the winter.

I was actually referring to your statement that Australians seem to be crude and feral. As an Australian, I find your statement to be ill informed and rather insulting. Regardless, the comic strip Footrot Flats was in fact from New Zealand, not Australia.
