Early August glistened with the brilliance of heat only deep summer could bring, simmering in the frequent rains that filtered through the flora like warm trickles of honey. Odelia always loved the showers, and no amount of pleading on Reese's part could keep her out of them.
She was built like a spring-loaded gun, too tight and tense and always ready to attack. Sleepy blue eyes rested on a baby-doll face that was out of place on her too-thin body, and her nose and eyes were red with her perpetual cold. The world would probably think her beautiful if she took care of herself, but for now she was just white trash that didn't know how to love herself.
