Honestly that's sometimes what I feel like on a bad hair day.
It's very well done. There seem to be a bit too much tension in the spear. The handle feel like it's going to snap.

Oh and you're right about the handle. That kind of handle won't stand the spear's weight. ^^
I notice it, but I still continue it anyway. That time i'm in the mood to make something weird without caring for any logic.

Nah... I can draw this monster because I'm inspired by many great artist in DA. My drawing skills improved a lot while I'm involved in this community. I'd say that I tend to challenge myself to draw something similiar when I see some really mad artwork. And thats how I grow. When u see an awesome artwork, don't just look and admire it, but try to make something similiar to that and make other admire your artwork. Slow...but sure to improve.

Haha don't worry. And thanks for the compliments ^^. And yeah I got my own way in drawing muscles, though the kind of muscle is more fitting for monsters. I try to apply it to my human character but it don't fits well. For details, well I never measure anything. I add each detail just because I see parts where it don't looks good when its plain. I didn't plan anything and just draw and add anything that makes my art looks better.
