Description The mother cat came in to be spayed. a complete ova-hysterectomy was performed by the veterinarian, and within the disconnected uterus was a litter of undeveloped fetuses. I put this one in a jar because I found it aesthetically pleasing. The kittens, by the way, never felt an ounce of pain, they were simply cut off from their blood supply and slipped into unconsciousness before the body heat was gone. not advocating feline abortions, but they happen everyday, just picking up the pieces lest they be taken out with tomorrow's garbage.
The bottle was something I was fortunate enough to come across via a coworker. It's a glass specimen bottle from a 19th century German museum, which displays nicely things like kitten fetuses.

That is quite illegal you know. The vet should have done an ultrasound first to see if the mother cat was pregnant. But, hey, the world isn't all that just. Nice picture, a little blurry but I lurve the colors. I ahve a fetal shark myself. Little Gomez.

I don't know a vet who hasn't done it at least 50 times... where is it illegal? I don't like it either, but... the poor kittens ended up strays and abused where I came from.

O, sorry I took so long to respond(i'm never on here anymore)...
But, to enlighten you: it is not illegal to spay a pregnant pet. Typically, in the cases I have seen, the owners did not wish for their pet to breed and just let time slip long enough for the pet to accidentally get pregnant, in which case, they usually opt for a spay anyway. Often, if the mother is close enough to term that the babies might survive, a nurse(I have done it more than once) will try and hand-raise them. That doesn't end up happening a lot, as it is rare for people to not notice pregnancy for that long. I only resign them to glass jars if they are not viable.
You have a fetal shark!? Do you have a picture?? Wow. How did you come across that?

I was just hanging onto the words of a friend. But I'm just finding out that she's wrong about, almost everything. But still. Fetal kitties. Makes me want to ahve some cuppycakes. I got it online at a holywood prop site. They have fetal-everything. Including some really realistic latex human fetus [es?] Alas. I dot not have a picture of Wee Gomez and his new little [fetal pig] brother, Nicolae. I don't even have a camera. >3>

I think you should take another photograph of this unique object. But add more dramatic lighting. Try setting up your light source behind the glass, as well as to the side. Or try different colors of light. This one is a little out of focus, try using a tripod, or bracing the camera.

I think you could make a truly great great photo with this subject!

Thanks...yeah, I'm not all that scientific about photography. I have a good eye for seeing what should be caught on film, ie, I was the one who slunk out of the surgery room with the pregnant cat uterus to remove the kittens and put them in jars knowing it would make a hell of a thing to lay the eye on....but other than that it's all a crapshoot. maybe I should get a good camera and learn to shoot...
