Description
"Into the Woods" show submission. The exhibition is geared towards fairy tales and folk lore. I thought I'd add a wolf since it shows up in so many stories.acrylics and charcoal on canvas 16x20 inches.

This painted on canvas. The extra stuff you see, I'm guessing, is the paper that was glued onto the canvas. The paper was loosely torn off.

Lovely! I like how this wolf makes me feel both scared and safe. Scared, because it is a wolf. Safe, because I feel like the glowing white eyes reveal an inner goodness, and that this wolf is a guide through the darkness. And I love the subtle use of the three circles.

I was hoping to give the wolf an air of mysticism, slightly sinister, magical feeling. Having abilities that seem supernatural. Also I like how you picked up on being able to trust the wolf... a little. There were not going to be any eyes at first. Others who had got to see the wolf in process thought it needed them visible. And the secret symbols of the circles. They demanded to be placed there. I know a little of their meaning in this painting but fully knowing their purpose eludes me. I agree I like how the textures turned out. Just experimenting. The textures were achieved by pulling away previously glued down photo grade printer paper.
