Pocahantas is one of my absolute favorite Disney Princesses simply because of her fighting Spirit. She's not one to allow a man to walk all over her or expect a man to save her. (In the end -- she was the one to save him.) Another wonderful thing I loved about her character was the fact she made her own choices. She strove for her own goals and what she knew was best. Her love of the world around her and her tenacity to stand up to this light skinned stranger earned her the respect she deserves.

John Smith was a fun character. He's simply in it for the adventure. Money doesn't seem to be an objective unless it's to please his own men. What sets him apart is willing to learn what Pocahantas says -- learn about her -- her culture -- and in turn, he realizes he's been wrong all along and admits it. He wants to end the fighting and realizes the western way of living isn't necessarily right because it's what he's always known. And Pocahantas teaches him that -- earning her respect -- and her love.

So, in the short term -- it's so Zutara-y lol.

Short story --

Katara's breath caught in her throat. This light skinned stranger's hand grasped her own. She was mesmerized by the color contrast of their skin for a moment before locking eyes with this man -- calling himself Zuko. A name she believed was a bit odd -- but not unpleasant at all. His eyes are what intrigued her most about him though. The golden amber was the color of the wheat and corn from the earth. Such a warm and inviting color -- she instantly felt herself drawing closer until they completely faced one another. He was nothing like she's ever seen before. His pale complexion, tall stature, broad shoulders, short black choppy hair, and golden eyes were so exotic to her.

Zuko froze for a moment. His eyes glancing questioningly at this beautiful woman standing before him. He'd faced many of her people before but none that looked like her. Her blue eyes sparkled like the ocean he loved. Her caramel skin was silky to the touch and the way her hair whipped around her face in the wind made his throat go dry. She was incredibly stunning. But it wasn't just her looks that drew him in. What she told him of her people -- of their culture made him second guessing everything he had learned. They came to this land to teach them how to use this land, make towns and cities, but as she continued to show him her life -- he felt more home than he had felt in his whole life.
