The parallels with their offspring are really interesting. I dont mean to like bash a ship or anything, but Vasgen and Aitner seem like really dysfunctional moirails. I hope they can come through for each other in the future unlike their ancestors though!

that's the point, they are supposed to be dysfunctional! aitner wants to be vasgen's moirail because he thinks it's some kind of obligation, not because he truely feels this way; and vasgen didn't grow up in the troll society that's why he doesn't understand what the hell aitner's trying to do, so there's no action from his side
and i don't think i will be a huge spoiler if i say that in the future they are going to understand each other better of course, but not on the moirallegiance level, they just don't need this kind of relationship with each other. so it's more of purely aitner's storyarc, where he need to understand that he shouldn't force himself and especially other person into a relationship if they both don't want it, even if it's a "social norm"
sooo yeah, i'm glad you noticed that aitner<>vasgen doesn't really work
