Description        The sun shone high overhead as a cooler than usual breeze blew over the island. The sky and sea were both a radiant blue, as always. It was eighty-one degrees, a cold day for Destiny Islands.

"Stop running away!" Tidus called as he chased Kairi.

Kairi smirked stopped suddenly. "Since you asked so nicely," she joked, turning around and rushing back towards him.

Tidus quickly slid to a halt and tried to attack her to knowck her back, but she parried his attack and used the opening to get in an attack of her own, managing to knock him back.

She haughtily put her toy sword on her shoulder and smiled down at him. "Had enough?"

"Oh, man, I'm really off today!" he said, panting.

"Sure, that's it," Kairi teased. "Just today."

        "Hey!"

"It's okay, Tidus, at least Riku isn't here to see you get beaten by a girl," Wakka joked.

Kairi smile faded and she put down her sword. "Right, Riku..."

Selphie hit Wakka on the arm. "Nice going," she whispered.

"...We'll have to show him when he gets back!" Kairi smiled again and looked up at the sky.

It would be Christmas soon, one of her favorite days of the year...

But she couldn't help but feel a little lonely. She spent every Christmas with Riku and... and the boy... She smiled as she recalled the Christmases they all spent together.

        "Kairi? Kairi? Kairi!"

"Huh?" Kairi snapped out of her fantasies and focused on Selphie. "Sorry, what were you saying?"

"The party tomorrow, for Christmas Eve. You're coming, right?" Selphie asked.

"Oh, yeah. Of course!" Kairi nodded. "I'll be there."

Kairi sighed as she stood at the door, holding her present for Selphie. She usually spent Christmas with Riku and...someone else. It felt odd to be without them at this time of the year. 'They'll come back soon...' she thought to herself, staring down at the present she was holding. 'I know they will...'

"Wow, you really came!" Tidus said as he opened the door. "Are you going to come in or just wait by the door?"

"Merry Christmas Eve." Kairi smiled. "I'm coming." She walked past Tidus into the house. The room was decorated with red, green, white, and gold decorations, and a tall, fake pine tree stood in a corner of the room with an paopu fruit on top as the star. Wakka and Selphie were busy wrapping tinsel around the tree.

Wakka was the first to notice Kairi's staring. "Hey, sistah, you made it!"

        "Kairi?" Selphie asked, surprised.

"Hey, Selphie, Wakka. Merry Christmas Eve. Mind if I help out, too?"

"Sure! Help me string this popcorn for the tree, then," Selphie led Kairi to the next room, where popcorn had just finished popping. "Sorry about this. Me, Tidus, and Wakka usually spend Christmas Eve decorating. I guess I forgot you were coming over, too, this year."

"...Sorry for worrying you before," Kairi said, holding out her gift. "I just had a lot of things on my mind... I'm worried about Riku and... but it'll all turn out okay. Thanks for being there for me..." She raised her voice and added, "and for helping me beat Tidus!"

"You got lucky!" he called back, and both girls giggled.

"So this is for me?" Selphie took the present and shook it gently. "Oh, I got something for you, too." Selphie bent down to grab a bow out of a cabinet and hand it to Kairi. "I forgot to get it wrapped though."

"Let's go ahead and open them, then," Kairi said excitedly. She pulled the top off of her box and pulled out a pink dress with three zippers on the front, two of which were merely for decoration. "This is... for me?" Kairi said, smiling. "It's beautiful."

"I wasn't sure if it was your style or not, really," Selphie said, chuckling. She pulled the ribbon and wrapping paper off of her gift and looked at the box. On it was the picture of a model train with a blue and grey color scheme. "I love trains, Kairi!" Selphie exclaimed. "How did you know?"

        "Lucky guess," she joked.

"This is so cool!" Selphie held it up to get a better view of it. "I really... uh, Kairi..." Selphie put the box down and pointed up towards the ceiling.

"What?" Kairi looked up where Selphie and her cheeks tinted the color of her new dress. "...I don't see mistletoe there," she lied. "Nope, nothing."

"Yup," Selphie agreed, climbing a counter to pull it down. "But if there was one, whoever put it up is going to wish they hadn't."

"So, about that popcorn..." Kairi said quickly to change the subject.

"Right, I'll go grab the string."
