And now we have my main Digimon ship! I like a few other couples in Digimon as a whole, but Rika Nonaka (or Ruki Makino) and Ryo Akiyama make the most compelling of them for me. In this case, the resemblance to Sokkla is a little easier to see than with a few of our previous pairs, even though some of the ship dynamics should be the other way around… see, where Azula is usually the one who’s superior to Sokka in everything, here it’s Ryo who happens to beat Rika and the stuff she’s good at. So in that regard, we’re upside down! xD
Anyways, an interesting thing to consider is that Sokka resembles Ryo physically A LOT. Same eye color, darker skin than everyone else’s in the show, same hair color too… interesting, isn’t it? xD Personality wise, though, Sokka and Ryo may not be that close… but Azula and Rika definitely are. Both are cold and ruthless (Rika moreso at the beginning of Tamers), both have a turbulent relationship with their mothers, both have trouble understanding how to treat their friends… fortunately Rika was given a chance to learn, unlike Azula who was completely screwed over by this in canon, but let's not get into that, now, shall we? .w.
So yeah, it’s a very wonderful pair in the show, even though it’s one that doesn’t really become canon, but haha, who expected anything else from me? :’D Anyhow, Tamers had an open ending so I can get delusional and imagine they got together when they were older. Weeee!
All in all, this was a nice piece to work with… but the coloring here was HARD. Really hard. So much for trying new lighting techniques XD
