Description Custom arrojara species commission for !

Not only is this the last of my commissions now but also is my first showing of the new arrojara design which I have spent the last year refining!

Its been a very hard design to nail, as I wanted to combine only certain avian attributes to it and still keep them different enough to not be identified as a bird, and I hope it has pulled off. Compared to the last version (Rabia Reference v.3.5 ) the design is hopefully much more in proportion, and the whole anatomy is more powerful and predator-like. I have added these oval-shaped organs on the wings trailing edge and you can see by the sketches that they act as camber control which allows arrojara to 'sharpen' or 'open' the wing shape to gain different types of flight. The organs themselves are attached by ligaments that can be tensed or relaxed and the organ itself can open and close. The organs specifically monitor variables in the air currents which make the arrojara highly responsive to wind currents etc, they are very agile and perform extreme acrobatics.

Also new to the species is retractible talons. They are resonable runners and to allow them to achieve this the talons are best kept out of the way and also stops them from getting blunt as they are rather massive in size.

Will hopefully have Rabia a new reference this year too once I have all my trades and gifts out of the way

Ahah. I really love this species. They seems so slim and fast. Doesn't seem very strong but surely dangerous. Even if their arms aren't very strong their legs with claws seems very devastating to any prey with most of the armour.
Their teeth will destroy prey.
They are perfect hunters.

Really awesome species, I love the detail you put into their anatomy and species building to make them believable and making sense!
Out of curiousity, do you have price guidelines for customs of that species?
They are probably a closed species, aye?

Thank you! The species is closed yes, and I do have a pricelist if you are interested. This particular one was $175 but the base price is $100, and rare traits are added at an additional price ^^

Gorgeous design! Body, coloration and details makes the character look really beautiful. By the look of it and the description it is clear You spent lot of time to think everything through, and it shows what we see, amazing results. You're doing a great work Sez

Thanks so much! The general design was based on the baltimore oriole and the commissioner had sketched down the design of the wings as a guide to use for the character but I guess it would have been monarch-butterfly inspired yes

Definitely doesn't look "too bird-like" - it's a very cool species!

Just want to make sure I understand the difference between this and the previous version.. this one is a bit stockier or more compact, whereas the Rabia reference has longer and thinner legs and neck, and longer but more slender wings and tail? Oh and this one seems to have slightly bigger hands and feet? Am I missing something? I honestly just thought of the two images as differences within the species, I didn't realize you were changing the species overall. Just trying to wrap my head around the changes. :]

So is there a huge range of color variation among the species? They can basically be any color?

Thank you so much x-x

I probably should have written 'updated' species design rather than completely new, seeming as there is not a massive difference in their overall appearance, no ^^ The wings are the biggest difference along with the layers of feathers along the body which is now entirely covering them (whereas before I defined the shape of the upper leg and breast muscles etc) which is why I was a little nervous that they may just look like birds now seeming as birds are all covered in this way.

As for colours this particular character is VERY brightly coloured for an arrojara, but this is what the commissioner had requested so I dont mind a one-off ^^ They are usually having a natural base colour and only have bright markings if so Colours like green/blue/purple/pink are pretty much not occurring other than on some wing feathers now and then

Ah yes, now that you mention it I see what you mean about the legs and how they're defined in the previous version. I don't think you have anything to worry about, the species design is very creative and doesn't "just" look like a bird. ^_^

Originally they were raptors so the feathers were much 'less' on the actual body so all of the shape was shown, when I changed the tail into a membrane one and the stance became upright like a bird it only became more fitting for them to lose some of the old raptor features thanks again!
