Description Taken at 1am in the morning. Photo un-altered.

I'm still trying to get the hang of getting good shots of the moon. Seemed too bright to get the detail of the surface. Just white light.

Tips welcome & appreciated.

I get moon shots all the time.

1. Tripod use is your friend.
2. Do you have a telephoto lens? Extend it fully.
3. I usually do my ISO at about 400.
4. Shutter speed I still experiment with, but usually it's between 1/500 to 1/1200

Hope this helps! It's a nice shot

It's always impressive when someone manages to take a picture of the sun.

Well you need a tripod or a solid surface were you put the camera, then you put the camera on AV and change the Aperture to 8 . Then you turn OFF the Image Stabilizer. Then you fokus the Moon and turn the AF off. After that you enable the Selftimer and press the Releasebutton. The Picture you have now will be very overexposed. If that is the case use the Braketing button to underexpose the picture (-0,5/-1/-2) Stop only, when you have the Detail in the Moon.

Also you can combine two shots, via Photoshop.

Wow, that is awesome! I had used the tripod & self timer but none of the other tips at all.
Why is it that 8 is best for the aperture setting?

Vielen Dank

Deceptico In reply to sezmeralda [2011-11-13 12:53:44 +0000 UTC]

because with Aperture 8 you probably have the bigger DOF (Depth of field), so a slight forkus difference wonΒ΄t matter at all.

Also with aperture 8 you lens should be up to its maximum resolution. Lenses are with open Apertures (small number) not at their peak resolution, that comes mostly at one or two stops. So if you habe a f5.6 Lens the best setting would around f8 or f11. You should give it a try

Thanks, it was such a beautiful time. I couldn't hear any sounds of the city - just the creek and the wildlife.
