Oh my god! I've been wanting to draw these two since forever!
I watched Death Note way back in 2006 when it was first being aired in Japan and I went into it knowing little to nothing about it. I can definitely say that it was completely different to anything I was expecting and way better than I ever could have imagined. I was hooked after just the first episode and it quickly became one of my most favourite anime. I rewatched it a few times afterwards, but it had been a long while since my last watching. Recently I decided to rewatch it again and I'd almost forgotten just how much I love it.
L is most definitely my favourite character, even though it had originally started out as Light. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions with these two when it came to who I liked more. In the beginning I really took to Light straight away and I was cheering for him and his mission to cleanse the world of criminals. When L came along, I was willing Light to defeat him, but more and more I started really liking L. Then I wanted L to win, as Light was slowly becoming more and more corrupt and just killing anyone who got in the way of his plans. But then, Light lost his memories of the Death Note and showed that he and L could work very well together, both using their incredible intellect and strong sense of justice. So I liked them both. Then the Death Note returned to Light's hands and he regained his memories back and indirectly killed L. Most of the remaining episodes, I really found myself despising Light, but it got flipped on its head once again when it came to Light's last moments before his death and I found myself feeling sad.
There is no doubt in my mind that had Light not discovered the Death Note, he would've gone on to become a great police detective and eventually crossed paths with L. They would've solved lots of cases together because they make a great team. It's sad. They finally found a person who truly understood them, but they could never be friends because Light is Kira and L is the world's greatest detective sent to hunt Kira down. Still, I guess the story wouldn't be quite so interesting without the conflict between the two. And I do love Death Note for all it's twists and turns.

So yes, the best part of the show was watching Light and L's game of cat and mouse with each other. Both geniuses trying to outwit the other. L being so certain that Light is in fact Kira, but never having enough evidence to prove it. I imagine that this picture would have taken place during the time that Light gave up ownership of the Death Note causing the loss of his memories of ever being Kira. L would still insist that Light was Kira, which would really rile Light. Both are very good at getting under each other's skin. So I imagine that after being accused of being Kira on this occasion, Light decided to get L back by stealing his precious cake and then purposely holding the folk in front of L's face to taunt him. L absolutely loves his sweets, so I can see him getting a tad annoyed with such behaviour. Aww, such a cute couple!

Anyways, I write too much. All you need to know is that I adore these two and I'm happy that I can finally put them in my gallery.

One more thing. This'll probably be my last piece of art for a while, as I have a big project to work on outside of dA and I can't say how long it'll take me to finish. So I shall see you all later!
