Really, in the "traditional Fantasy" of games and comics, there is nothing as amussing and useless as the female armors: and how disapointing to compare that to the real woman warriors that lived in the steppes of Euroasia

Nice conversation! Right woman is right! But armor has one big disadvantage. Weight! It is heavy. So sexy outfit is suitable for light infantry in warm climate.

I how most artist would developed there female warrior with
little to no body mass in the range of muscle and fat to carry
heavy axes or clubs. I would see equal amount actual female warriors. Anyway I love this piece.

las mujeres pictas peleaban con solo cuero y pieles y a veces sin nada y aun asi le metian buenos sustos a los romanos
pero si como dices... son cuestiones del fantasia... es el teorema de Conan... mientras menos armadura o ropa mas crecen las posibilidades de sobrevivir y el numero de enemigos muertos a tu alrededor... y Conan no es alguien con quien quiera discutir
ademas... si una guerrera usa poca armadura no deberia preocuparte que sepa como defender esos puntos debiles y este esperando que los uses?

The shields where so small, as they where light shields, mostly used by cavalry:
However, there have been even smaller shields:
An example was a kind of "rodela" -no idea the english name-, used in the 100 years war, that covered only slighty more than the fist
-it was of the size of a dish-
The idea of a small shield like that, is that you can move very quick, and intercept the attack -rather than wait for it- and then strike back:
Basically, a smaller shield provide protection, but mean you need to stay in the offensive (as infantry or cavalry)

It isn't necesary to be a master to be allwways in the offensive:
Normally, the "conscripts" of ancient times, farmers and so, or rebels, depending of the situation, normally didn't had any kind of training, but had merely offensive weapons:
For instance, one of the more popular weapons -and by popular, I truly mean popular, I mean farmers and everybody who was unlucky enough to fight- the Axe, it was largelly used by inexperienced individuals, and is an only offensive weapon:
You simply can't blocade with an axe: You attack, or you throw the axe and run for your life.
The same with cubs, or hammers, or spears, or scramasax, or billhooks, or others:
The inmense bulk of people who used these weapons didn't have any kind of training: but by the same nature of their weapons, without any or poor defense capabilities, where obligated to do the offensive -because if they lost it, they where as good as dead-
A little shield was then an improvement, that anything:
Also, If you need to march hundreds of kilometers, better to do it with something portatile, rather than shields so big that where carried in carts pulled by oxes.
The sarracens, persians, spanish, english, welsh, scottish, irish, russians, stepperians, nelaese, chinese, and hundreds of others prefeered smaller shields, rather than the inmense, and difficult to learn how to use, "pavesadas" of the Italians, Normands and French long shields, or the gothic infantry shields...
But as I say, in the end, everything depend of the type of weapons, strategy used, and the same warriors

How large would an average amazons would have been to have fought the male Greeks solders in melee armed combat. I would estimate around 198 to 250 lbs to match a male opponent.

remember that in ancient times people was significally smaller, but stronger as well... as well, taking in supposition the amazons where "historic" like the scithyan or sarmatian ones, they would fight in horseback instead, rather than directly.

yet, Amazones are not poor and untrained soldiers, and farmers who used these small shields usually died in their thousands.
So, it's a strategical question, really.

Most of the real, original Amazons, where "ocasional" warriors:
The scites and sarmatians trained their women to fight, so when there was war, and the man go away for years, the woman where able to defend their cattle and homes.
The persian amazons where noblewoman, who liked to fight...
But not necesary they where excelent soldiers, tought

This question may seemed old and crude but i did not know that there were cultures that trained there female citizens to fight such as the Persians.
During the bronze age history had taught us women were considered second class citizens
in countries like Ancient Persia,Athens Greece and Rome.

In the case of the persians, it must be said that they where mostly noblewoman, and it wasn't as frecuent, but happened. :3
But you will never find female persians levies or such!
As well, the social possition of woman had changed much, depending of places, times and cultures, but not necesarily fighting mean you are equal to others who fight.
In history, there have been many historic "amazons", but none of them so far relates with the mithological ones of greeks, or from the "amazon river" the spanish thought to find:
For example, among the bulgars existed warrior noblewoman, and it happened as well with some slavic tribes in the dark ages up to the XI century -in general, warrior women seem to have been more common in the steppes of Eurasia-.
The gaelic celts of Ireland as well had trained woman to fight, but they didn't seem to actually be warriors, and there were viking and germanic armed woman, but is not clear if is only myth or reality.
In south-east Asia as well existed kingdoms who had regiments of warrior woman, normally from the guards of Queens and Princesess, but the names of these kingdoms escape me in the moment, I'm sorry.

Listen my friend, I have started working out about a year ago, and the results are truly amazing: I LOVE JOGGING! If you wouldv'e said that to me twelve moths ago, I wouldv'e been thinking you have gone mad or something. So, if you really into something, practice, and it should get better.
