Name: Anton “The Black Bolt” Shirogane, Shiro for short

Birthday: December 30

Species: Dog (Schipperke)

Catchphrase: Hff

Quote: “Everybody’s got their limits. Nobody’s found mine.”

Character Type: Jock/Cranky

Personality: Shiro is at first glance a stuffy know-it-all. And he is! He’s remarkably intelligent and loves to learn and impart his knowledge to others. He probably would have made a great teacher if his life didn’t lead him down another path. He has a good heart and a strong sense of justice and fair play, but he can be quick to judge and easy to irritate. He also dislikes admitting when he is wrong, though he will usually do it eventually if he really believes it. Shiro is all about strength in body, mind, and spirit and he trains every day in all three areas to keep himself in top form as he dislikes being anything but the best he can be. He is always striving to overcome his limits and is an incredibly determined individual (definitely to a fault). He is the protective sort and he does not hesitate to step in if he thinks he sees somebody being treated unfairly or being hurt. He likes righting wrongs and goes to great lengths to do so. He is very passionate, idealistic and hot-blooded… which doesn’t always mix well with the fact that he is also rather tightly wound and high-strung. He tries to keep a stoic facade, but it is very easy to break. Still, under all that jaded stoicism, there is a wide-eyed innocent who truly wants to make the world a better place in any way he can. Unfortunately, he’s very nosy about it and takes way too many matters into his own hands, often biting off way more than he can chew and getting in too deep with dangerous crowds. Still. He’s actually a very nice guy.

History: Anton Shirogane started out life as a weak and scrawny puppy, bright and intelligent… but an insufferable know-it-all. This made him highly unpopular with his classmates, who bullied him, often physically. He became inspired by his childhood hero, a championship boxer called Bright Flash, who represented everything he wanted to be: strong, respectable, defender of the downtrodden. He subsequently began training and by the time he came of age, he had transformed into a powerful fighter and decided to try and pursue boxing professionally. At his first exhibition match, he coincidentally managed to catch the eye of his hero, Bright Flash, who had been invited as a special guest. He took Anton under his literal and figurative wing and decided to become his coach, as he saw potential in him to become an international champion.

For many years, Anton rose in the ranks, winning several belts in local circuits, the middleweight champion of his home region. He became known as “The Black Bolt” due to his impressive speed, flawless footwork, and blindingly fast punches. Invited to the national circuit, he proved to be a real favorite to win the whole thing… but he was pressured by some of the higher-ups to take a dive in one of the semifinal matches, which he refused to do, being a dog of honor. And so, to ensure his loss, his opponent soaked his hand wraps in plaster of Paris under his gloves so that his punches became rock-hard, hitting Anton like a brick. Anton went down hard, knocked out of the ring where his leg snapped in half. The bone never set right, leaving him with a permanent limp and ensuring the end of his professional boxing career.

Devastated by his failure and the end of his dream, Anton withdrew from the public eye, falling back on the strength of his mind in these difficult times. He no longer wanted to go by his real name or his boxing title, instead insisting on being called “Shiro” so that nobody could connect him to his past. He became no less interested in being a beacon of strength and justice and so fell into a new career of a private detective of sorts— more a vigilante than anything. He has recently moved to Lilypad with his adopted daughter Ramona to pursue a few suspicious characters he longs to bring to justice...

Likes: Justice, training, mysteries, reading, kids, dog biscuits dunked in coffee, order, being strong in body, mind, and spirit.

Dislikes: Cheating, magic, ghosts, physical limitations, chaos, bullying, weapons.

Other:

-Left-handed, and did well in the ring as a southpaw fighter, as most boxers are used to right-handed opponents.

-His right leg is injured to the point he has a permanent limp, so he is not very fast at walking and cannot run well at all.

-He can still throw a mean punch, and he knows exactly where to aim it to make it count.

- His boxing style was out-fighting, which made him strong against brawlers (opponents that were bigger and more powerful than him whose main focus was simply landing devastatingly strong punches) as it involved being defensive, fast, and wearing down his opponent little by little. It made him vulnerable to in-fighting, however (a boxing style involving getting up close and personal and unleashing a reckless and relentless barrage of attacks). Shiro sustained his career-ending injury from an in-fighter.

- He has phasmophobia, the fear of ghosts. The very thought of them makes him highly uncomfortable.

- He plays classical piano in his free time

- He dislikes magic, finding such powers to be an unfair advantage and easy to exploit against those mundane individuals who have worked hard to train their own skills
