Wow! I really like the detail you put into this! Definitely a different image of a mermaid that one usually expects! ^^
One thing I'd like to see you work on is perhaps proportions...I feel like the head is too big for the body so it gives her an almost clumsy or comical look to it (and I don't think that's what you're going fer 
Other than that, again, I love the COMPLETELY different type of mermaid this is. Fabulous work!

Oh why this is lovely! That tail really caught me attention. It's really spazzed out, and captures grace with rigidness. It's pretty legit.
The fins that reach up to her forhead make a really edgy touch, like if this mermaid could really kick your ass if they wanted to. But the face shows curiosity, which evens it out to where it's just a mermaid, chillin' the waters. Being a mermaid. It's nice.
One thing I would work on is the chest. It seems like she's sucking in her stomach, and for such a calm look, it doesn't seem fitting.
Noneoftheless. It's great. The detail in the fins is pretty amazing, and I really like the turnout. Color it. With some intense colors. It'll b grand I think. ~
