Description Yesterday's comic.

Imitating another artist’s style isn’t as easy as I thought…

I have nothing against Penny Arcade, I actually like a lot of their strips. But the many types of jokes seen above, and how frequently they fill the entire strip with word bubbles annoys me.

But hey, they’re successful and I’m not. What do I know?

Um... They actually parodied themselves back in '99. [link]

Awww I like the Penny Arcade comics. I think the wordiness adds to their style of funny, sort of like how Family Guy will carry on and on with something which will somehow make it funnier. Anyway, I thought this was quite funny.

Definitely. Some of their long winded statements are genuinely hilarious.
Glad you like it

I couldnt agree more here, I respect Penny Arcade, they have a dam gaming convention named after them. However I will read their comics and wont really find them funny, not to mention FAR to wordy for a comic

I wouldn't say it's far too wordy for a comic- it needs to take more breaks from it, that's for sure, but when I think of wordy comics, I'm reminded of Bloom County. Breathed would often use extremely long, convoluted and intelligent statements to make a humorous point, and I'd say it worked on nearly every occasion. And it wasn't occasional, almost every other strip had those long clever statements.

The problem with Penny Arcade's take on that is they go out of their way to find ridiculous words to make it sound silly. If they're not doing that, they're just needlessly dragging the subject out with simple terminology in hopes that they'll get the joke across, rather than relying on the reader's intellect or interpretation. If the joke has to have an explanation within the same strip, then the joke needs to be dropped, unless the explanation itself is the joke.

And I just realized that I am a complete hypocrite after writing all that.

I'd go as far as to say I really dont find the strips funny. I know alot of other people do so and its only my opinion here but its strange with PA. For example when I see a crappy comedy film like Meet The Spartians, I can see where the jokes are and what is meant to be funny, even tho the jokes in there are just shit. But with PA, I cant quite figure out what it is thats meant to be funny. It could be that they appeal to a culture that i am not a part of but i just dont get them

Understandable. I know there's an entire following for webcomics like PvP and Ctrl+Alt+Del, but they never stuck with me personally.
We all have our own different tastes I suppose.

Again, i guess there is a big market for gaming themed humour. The show Zero Puncuation does a episode about the whole thing now that i think about it
