Description It used to be just another day in Gensokyo. The humans shunned the shrine, that shrine's miko was bored, and the "ordinary magician" was out to collect mushrooms for her magic experiments. That was, until a thick red fog started to spread all throughout Gensokyo. The two looked at the fog for a while, believing it would eventually settle itself, but seeing the fog becoming thicker by the minute, the two started to rethink their guess. "If the fog won't stop, at this rate, it will swap over into the Outside World," the Shrine Maiden thought. "So you could say this is an incident! And incidents are a Shrine Maiden's duty to resolve! All right, it's settled, I'll go and take a look at this!"
The magician, on the other hand, had other thoughts. "This fog can't possibly be natural, so it has to be created by someone or something. And if someone is able to create such a mist with such a far spread, then they must be powerful. And if they are powerful, then they must have powerful artifacts! All right, it's settled, I'll go and take a look at this matter!" And thus, the black-white magician set out to investigate (or pillage) as well.
However, those two were not the only ones noticing about this mist (in fact, pretty much everyone around the Misty Lake knew of that fog's existence, basically because they were in it). The local nurse Rin Satsuki looked at this mist with worry. "This fog blocks off all light that comes from the sun. If this won't stop, all life will wither away under this mist!" Knowing that she was one of the only few people who were powerful enough to solve this incident, she packed her mighty weapon, her Erhu, and set out to find the one responsible and save all the humans in the human village, and possibly the entirety of Gensokyo.
Will the three of them be strong enough to defeat the perpetrator, or will they lose all energy before they can even get to the final boss?

-----

Haven't done one of these in a while (the little picture stories, I mean. Although, I haven't drawn a full Touhou picture (with background) in an even longer while, now thinking about it). So I couldn't resist doing it again. ^^

For some reason, I felt the great urge to draw Rin Satsuki (who I will be calling by her family name to not confuse her with the cat youkai Rin Kaenbyou (Orin)), but just drawing a simple character without any context would be boring, so I drew some kind of EoSD promotional picture with Satsuki being the focus character.
...
But, say, can anyone tell me why Satsuki seems to be trying to conjure Rumia's spirit? Stop trying to adept to the decimal system!

I've been trying out a new coloring style in this picture. The shading and especially the eyes.
Though, to be honest, I only tried out a new coloring technique for the eyes because, and I'm not kidding here, I forgot HOW I colored the eyes in my previous pictures. That's because my last pictures were either comics, in which I have a simple drawing style for eyes because the resolution is so low anyway that a simple coloring is enough, Sonic pictures, in which I have a different style for the eyes, and ... okay, writings aren't pictures, but still.
So yeah, I kinda forgot how I drew eyes, so I thought I might as well try out a new coloring style for the eyes. xD
In my opinion, Reimu's eyes look the best, even though she was the first one I colored.
Maybe because the yellow eyes of the other characters are too bright, or because of something else. I'll have to take a look into that. ^^

Oh, I've also tried out colored linearts in this picture, They take a little while longer than just using black lines, but it does look better. ^^

And this is the first time I've drawn clouds. Well, unless you count those really bad comicy clouds I drew in my comics before.
For a first time, I guess it doesn't look bad, but it could have been better. Although I probably shouldn't have started with a sunset like sky, meaning that the clouds aren't white like in all tutorials. That didn't make anything more difficult. xD;

If I'd have to say which of the three characters here I think came out best, then I'd probably have to choose Satsuki. Because, somehow, I managed to make her look really cute. xD
Although I like Reimu's annoyed look as well. It fits her so much.

And please don't look at the broom (in the actual size). It looks bad. xD;
Brooms are difficult to color.

And with Satsuki done, all I need to draw are the two mid-bosses, and then I'll have drawn all characters from EoSD at least once.
And some of the other games I've drawn not even a single character of. Whoops. xD

I'm certainly glad you had the urge to draw Rin Satsuki. I think this was a great effort and I have to admit I rather like this piece of work. I like the look of each character, the simplicity does remind me a lot of Touhou 6 actually.

With as under-appreciated as some Touhou characters are, like Rin Satsuki here, it really does feel nice when an artist comes along and draws them, so definitely you have my thanks for that! I'm actually quite a big fan of Rin Satsuki too.

Also I do like the story you included with the picture. It's fitting to the EoSD, almost like a prologue; and heck- even the reasoning behind Rin Satsuki heading out to solve the incident turns out to be a better motive than Reimu and Marisa's own reasons for solving this incident.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. ^^

There are so many Touhou characters, it's really a shame that there's a huge focus on a select cast. Not saying that I don't have my selected few characters that I keep on drawing, too *coughmarisamimayuukareimucough*, but I'm trying to switch it up every once in a while. xD
Satsuki is kind of a neat character, with her status of being a character that never was. It's a shame that she never made it into EoSD, but that's kind of what makes her interesting nowadays. At least to me. ^^
And I definitely want to do more with Satsuki in the future, buuut that may take a while. (stupid long projects that I keep working on xD; )

"Almost like a prologue." Well, that's what it was supposed to be.
But it's kind of true, Reimu tends to do indicent resolutions solely because it's her job, and Marisa tends to do them to either one up Reimu or because she thinks she'll fijnd treasures (or knowledge).
With Satsuki, since she doesn't really have any canon to follow, and only the fanon believe that she is a nurse, I thought giving her a strong sense to protect life was appropriate. And since she isn't one of the "usual" incident resolvers, she needs a better motive to even bother doing something. xD

I have to admit, I've always had a thing for Touhou's unused and under-appreciated content. I'm a firm believer that if Rin Satsuki had made it in the player cast of Touhou 6, it most likely could have altered the entire player cast history of Touhou. I could picture Rin Satsuki in future game, stories, and manga.

You know how awesome it would be if she seen the light of day? I mean I know it's a almost vain hope that we will see her again, but I still want her to be in Touhou because I know she would have been fantastic character in the hands of ZUN, just like many other characters are today. But I agree that Rin Satsuki has a lot of charm as an unused character, and a lot of potential for fan usage, doesn't she?

My focus for the longest time has been on these unloved characters because if they were more loved, at least the fans could do more awesome things with them. Kind of like what you did here, I thought the effort you put in for Rin Satsuki was just plain marvelous myself.

In light of that I dream one day some fan(s) will make a Rin Satsuki PC Patch for EoSD. I would seriously die happy if I got to see that.

With that being said, if you do plan on doing more with Rin Satsuki in the future, you certainly have my attention on more content from you. I already like your content from looking through it, so take my watch.

I looks forwards to more content from you. ^^

It definitely would have changed the cast as we know it. Rin Kaenbyou would have a different first name, for starters. xD
But even outside of that, it would be interesting to have Satsuki in a fighting game.  Or to see her popping up in manga.

It's just as likely as Mima making a comback (Nooo-!), but as long as fans still remember them, that's enough for me.
Every Touhou character has a lot of potential in the hands of the fans.

Well, I'm not good enough with hacking to bring Satsuki into EoSD, but I am a programmer with a lot of interest into game design. And I'm currently working on starting an RPG engine for a Touhou fangame I want to make (technically, the Touhou fangame is just a part of it), which may or may not include Satsuki as a playable character. But before I can do that, I first have to get the engine running. And for that I have to get better in C#. And finally get the database for saving all the important data like spells etc. working. (And with university claiming so much of my time, my progress is rather lacking. )

Thanks a lot for the watch! It means a lot to me! ^^

Or perhaps Orin would be her actual first name.

It's just as likely as Mima making a comeback (Nooo-!), but as long as fans still remember them, that's enough for me.

I second that on so many levels. Glad you and me are on the same page in those regards.

And I'm currently working on starting an RPG engine for a Touhou fangame I want to make (technically, the Touhou fangame is just a part of it), which may or may not include Satsuki as a playable character.

Not going to lie, that sounds awesome! Of course I'd have wait and see what the game is like, but best regards to finishing that someday, all the same. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thanks a lot for the watch! It means a lot to me! ^^

I was happy to give you it. ^^

Well, the O in Orin is just an honorific that Utsuho uses to be really polite towards Rin, so that's rather unlikely.

Like I said, I'm just starting out with the engine (I'm currently trying to get a proper database framework so I can more easily store/access all data that needs to be stored, like spells or character information), so you'll have to wait for a long time until you actually get to see anything (if I don't outright quit because I lose interest, which I really don't hope to do). But thanks for your encouraging words. ^^
