Well your "messing" around has paid off, you've been able to get a really good illustrated look here. Well done.

thanks!

and yeah. the illustrated look thingie is mostly due to a doing horrible things to the sky (which I replaced entirely with some photo from Image*After, and then tortured some more), and a strange (yet extremely useful!) discovery in PhotoShop's Smart Blur - somehow, if you play around with it enough, you will somehow reduce your image into a set of white on black borders of the main elements of the image. invert those colors, and voila! instant black borders.

Next you'll be talking about tortured skies
You never cease to impress me with what you're able to do with Photohop, I tell myself I'll be able to learn how to do some of these things but I just never do.

oh! that is a lovely title for some hyper-goth image! haha!

heh. thanks! nothing amazing to it, really. its just a matter of obsessively researching the effects of combining different layer blending modes with the various filters.

Heh, I suppose it is

I'm sort of doing that but don't come up with such good results, I guess I could spend a bit more time messing around and actually try to remember what I'm doing

Oh. I rarely have a clue what I've done exactly with stuff. Makes the process a little annoying, but also much more fun, because each image comes out differently.

Messing around is fun yes, but there are times when I wish I had a clearer idea of what you can do with PS so that I could really go to town on my images, I've got a few tutes but I just never seem to get around to reading them. If I'm gonna get into the higher end apps then I guess it would be a good idea to learn how to use PS more effectively.

i think its important to feel comfortable with the app enough so you're not just "duh, what does that do? kool!", but other than that, i think exploring is most of the fun.

That's a fair point, and yes I do agree - to a point, for me, because of the way my mind works I prefer to have a good familiarity of the program so that I can then explore even furtehr and see what fun I can have. That's more down to the way my mind works that anything else though.

Well I've bought an Adobe published book on learning Photoshop so all I've got to do is read it and apply what I learn. That sounds easy *smirks*

The way things are going my free time could be limited for a short while, but it'd not be for long and would be a small sacrafice in the long run. (see my LJ for an update)

It's not an offer yet, but is a step in the right direction. If this one isn't successful then I'm optimistic the recruiment agency are going to be useful. Just waiting to see.
