Pretty old piece, but still one of my favs. Done back in good ol' 2003. Believe it or not... this was inspired by Mario carts. lol.My sister was playing, and she chose the little 'shroom dude as her driver, and I was like... dude... you could do, like, people mushrooms. Yes, my brain is articulate like that.
My mom actually wrote an awesome poem that goes in that big white/yellow/misty place. I'll post it later.

That's so funny, I totally agree with you. I feel like this one looks like all of my gallery (or at least what I am trying to accomplish) but it does NOT sell! And I was thinking of changing it up for some simple chibis and children's illustration work just to make some money XD

I love your technique, use of color, and level of detail in this piece! The trees in the distant background are a nice touch. Each little mushroom seems to have their own personality. Great work

What kind of paper do you use for watercolors? Everytime I do watercolor it winds up warping and I have tried the method of getting it wet to stretch it and then letting it dry and it still bubbles...sigh, also do you draw straight onto the watercolor paper or do you just lightly sketch and then outline after you paint?

I use Arches 140 lb cold press that comes in a block (meaning all the sheets are stuck together and you can peel them apart). I typically do a drawing on a separate sheet of paper so I can get the design really clean and finalized, then use graphite transfer paper to trace the image onto the paper. I tape the outline of the space I want to work on which leaves a white border, and the tape also serves to keep the image from bubbling too much when I start painting. I think it's hard to avoid the bubbling completely tho...
I tend to ink before I paint (so then it feels a little bit like I'm painting on a coloring book image.
