6/201211″ x 14″ Prismacolor Markers, colored pencils, ink and white charcoal on Arches HP watercolor paper.
Obviously, I’m not just a MLP collector, I’m a fan of the new FiM show. For this piece, I wanted to do my version of what Spike, Rarity, and their kids would look like in the future. I’m sure my L5R background inspired me as well, but I always thought that Spike should look like an Eastern dragon. Plus, that would also explain his love of mustaches!
I also wanted this to be a kind of origins story as to where the Demons may have originated from. I think when you have two magical creatures such as dragons and unicorn procreating you’re going to end up with some pretty crazy offspring!

Ye gods, but this puts a new & interesting spin on Rarity's element. With enough scale-hooved hellions to form their own Halfway-Maned Six, I can only assume Auntie Twilight spends the week prior to their visits coating every inch of the library with asbestos.
Anyhow, the lung body plan, beard & 'stache, to say nothing of that darker shade of violet, do Spike all sorts of favors; as for the wife & fledglings, those earlier-generation(?) muzzles definitely add a bit of expressive charm. Having missed most of Hasbro's start on toons in the 80's, it's interesting to see what sort of spin old-school fans apply to the current crop. Ah, and lest I forget: loving the sheer variety of divergent doodads (extra horns, wings, tail-tufts/spikes, etc.) sported by this mischievous bunch. Those cloven hooves just frost the cupcake as well. Thanks for sharing.

See now this type of adult spike makes sense, I always figured he'd look more like an Chinese Dragon or Kririn one when he grew up, if he grew up in a more noble non-greed-esue way that s (I mean we all know what greed makes him grow into...but yeah) Nice pick brah!
