Dominique spent eighteen years of her life being repressed and the moment she could get out from under that, she did. She's not here to please you, or anyone else anymore. That said, she's actually a pretty nice person, as long as you don't try to make her do something she doesn't want to do. Having been pushed around a significant amount of her life and now nearing thirty, she has grown quite stubborn. If she thinks what she's doing is in her best interest, it's hard to convince her otherwise. Very hard.
Dom loves being social and making friends. Going out, having a good time, making people happy, those are all important to her and part of the recipe for a good life. She is an ambivert, but leans more towards the extrovert side. After her transition, she became quite the social butterfly.
Dominique is an observant person, spotting small details about people and things easily. She often notices the changes in peoples' body language and demeanor. Unfortunately for some people, this teams up with her nosiness and causes her to ask probing questions sometimes. Don't want to talk about your personal life while getting your hair cut? You might want to pick a different stylist. She is also known to give advice at the drop of a hat, whether or not you asked for it. She's well-meaning and it comes from a good place, it's just... not always wanted.
Dom is capable of enduring a lot, both physically and emotionally. She had to be to survive her life and grow into the person she knew she was. As a result, she's also very determined and will keep working even in the most difficult of situations. She's learned to put her head down and get the work done-- but she might complain about it along the way.
Dominique does her best to be an open-minded, caring, understanding person, but sometimes she can't help herself and judges people anyway. Mostly she judges someone based on their actions. If she sees someone making what she believes is a mistake, she will judge that person. However, she keeps these judgments to herself-- mostly. Her demeanor might reflect her feelings towards that person, but she tries to rein it in as much as she can because she knows it's wrong to judge, and she wouldn't want anyone judging her. That said, if she finds out someone is judging her, she gets pretty offended.
Overall Dominique is a positive, pleasant person and a good friend to have if you want to have a good time. She's all about living her best life, almost like she is making up for lost time.

Dominique Breckenridge was never meant to exist.
Morag Breckenridge had her life entirely figured out. She was going to get her degree from a nice university in the city and work in finance, get married, and have one well-behaved child no sooner than age twenty-five. That was the plan. Then she met Jasper, and he ruined everything.
Jasper O'Brien wasn't an up-and-coming college student, he wasn't a man with a plan, he was a rock star with long hair, a motorcycle, and a penchant for breaking women's hearts. When he set his eyes on a woman, he did everything to get her and add her to his list. As soon as he saw Morag, he was determined to make her his for a while. Morag said she wasn't the kind of girl who fell for punk boys in leather jackets but in the end, Jasper got exactly what he wanted. Morag fell in love with his charm and surprising intelligence and, rather than see him as a loser bumming around campus for chicks, she came to think of him as a young philosopher. Their relationship was fiery and passionate, but short-lived. As soon as summer came and Morag told Jasper she would be going home to Ballonlea for the three months between semesters, he broke up with her, claiming he couldn't handle long distance. Crushed by his inability to commit, Morag cut contact with him and went home. Two weeks later, she discovered she was pregnant.
Morag had no intention of telling Jasper the news, as far as she was concerned he was gone for good. She wasn't convinced he was cut out to be a father, anyway. She did tell her parents, though, and they made it clear that they would not help her with her mistake. After much turmoil and deliberation, Morag decided that the right thing to do was quit school, get a job, and raise her child. So she canceled her upcoming semester, found a job with a local bank, got a studio apartment, and prepared for the birth of her child. Several months later, she welcomed her son, Alexander Breckenridge, into the world.
Life was difficult the first year of Dominique's childhood, with Morag working and doing her best to provide for the both of them. When Dominique began presenting her Impidimp totem, Morag only felt that things got worse, as she worried the totem meant her child would be a troublemaker. Shortly after Dominique turned one, however, her mother met William. Having been heavily spurned by Jasper, she was cautious with her relationship with William. However, unlike Jasper, he proved to be a serious man looking for a life partner, and he had no qualms with the fact that she had a child already. He even volunteered to watch Dominique sometimes to develop their relationship. By the time Dominique was three, they were married. A year later, their daughter, Joy, was born.
When Dominique was five, she realized something was wrong: her mother and step-father insisted she was a boy, but she knew she was a girl. She tried to tell them all the time, but Morag wouldn't have it. Each time, she shot her child down and told her she didn't know what she was talking about. William insisted she'd grow out of it, that sometimes children had quirky phases-- but he insisted he never had one like this himself.
The older Dominique grew, however, the more certain she was. Especially as she watched her sister, Joy, grow older. Joy got everything Dominique wanted. The pretty dresses, the dolls, the princess tiara for her birthday. And what did Dominique get? Aggressively shoved in the background and told to be quiet and to stop 'insisting on things that aren't true.' As she grew older, her mother treated her worse any time she tried to do anything feminine, and slowly Dominique learned to be quiet and keep her feelings to herself. The damage, however, had been done, and Dominique quickly faded into the background in favor of Joy. Joy was everything Morag had wanted, what she had planned for. A well-behaved daughter who listened to Mom and Dad and never made a fuss. Dominique, however, was seen as a 'problem child' who tried to break the rules and stir the family up for 'no reason.' It was common for Morag to say things like "you're just like your father" and "you get this from your father."
Dominique grew up in the shadow of the father she never knew. As she got older, she began to wonder about him. Could life be different with her dad? Could she be herself if she lived with him? At age ten, after taking a long time to gather the courage, Dominique asked her mother who her birth father was, and told her she wanted to meet him. Morag was completely against the idea and denied her. "When you're eighteen, if you still want to meet him, I can't stop you," Morag said. "But as long as you live under my roof, you're not seeing that man."
As Dominique grew older, she became depressed and quiet. To her parents, she was finally starting to behave herself, but the truth was that she had lost the will to fight with them. At age twelve she evolved into a Morgrem, and things only got worse. She decided she wanted to grow her hair out, but her mother refused, saying it was 'a gateway into causing trouble again.' Dominique quickly gave up and returned to her quiet life, focusing her attention on school and getting good grades, because it kept her from thinking of herself.
Joy, on the other hand, was thriving. She was the favorite child, and she was popular in school. As she grew into a teenager, Dominique came to envy her. She wanted to be accepted like Joy so badly. She never took her feelings out on her sister, but they did prevent them from growing very close. Until Dominique turned sixteen, that is. Unable to hold the secret in herself any longer, she took her sister to the mall and found a neglected corner in a coffee shop for them to sit and talk. Holding an iced mocha in her hands, letting the cold calm her, Dominique told her sister she was transgender. She was prepared for the worst, for Joy to be like their mother and father, but to her surprise, she was the opposite. Joy reached out, took her hand, and said, "Thank you for telling me. I love you."
Dominique was moved to tears by the gesture and thanked her profusely. Joy asked what name Dominique wanted her to use, and Dominique felt a sour taste in her mouth. "Mom and Dad um... they don't believe me so I can't... I can't change my name," she admitted sadly.
"Well, when it's just us, what do you want me to call you?" Joy asked.
Dom considered the answer for several long seconds. She'd known for years what name she wished was her's, but never once had she said it aloud. She'd never even written it down. "Um... you can call me... Dominique."
Things got a little better for Dominique after that. While she still had to pretend to be the quiet, follows-the-rules Alexander in public, in the privacy of their bedrooms, when their parents weren't paying them any mind, Dominique got to be herself. Joy taught her how to paint her nails and, as she got older, how to do makeup.
Finally, after so many years of waiting and coping, Dominique turned eighteen. Throughout her teenage years, she'd taken summer jobs and squirreled away all the money in hopes of accumulating enough to move out and start her life, if that was what she had to do for this next step. The day after she turned eighteen years old, she went to her mother and said, "I'm eighteen now, I want to know who my birth father is."
Morag considered the demand for a long time before finally sighing and nodding. She told her everything pertinent that she could of Dominique's father, finishing with, "It's been almost nineteen years, I don't know if you'll be able to find him."
"Well, I'm going to try," Dominique replied. "Will I... still have a home here when I come back?"
Morag considered the question for a long few moments before finally nodding. With that resolved, Dominique began the search for her birth father. It took several months and a lot of work, but eventually, Dominique found a Jasper O'Brien matching his description, still living in Hammerlocke. Finding him on social media, she took another few days to compose a letter to him and gather the courage to send it.
Dear Jasper,
You don't know me, but my name is Dominique Breckenridge, and I'm your daughter. Nineteen years ago you had a relationship with my mother, Morag Breckenridge, and she realized she was pregnant after you broke up. If it's okay with you, I'd like to meet you.
Three days later, Dominique received a response. Jasper agreed to see her.
Dominique knew she was taking a big risk, visiting this man who might be her father before her transition, but she took it anyway. They agreed to meet two weeks later at the Hammerlocke train station, and take it from there. So two weeks later, Dominique found herself on the platform, fresh off the train from Stow-on-Side, looking for her alleged father.
Jasper didn't look terribly different from how Morag described him, just older and better kept, trading in his leather jacket for a windbreaker. When Dominique approached him, he was surprised, probably because he was looking for someone who looked like his daughter. "I know I don't look quite how you expected but um... it's me, Dominique."
Jasper took a moment to understand the situation, then greeted her and offered to take her out for a cup of coffee so they could talk. They did so, and the first thing that Dominique told him was that she was trans. "This is a lot to take in," Jasper said. "Finding out I have a kid after all this time-- a-and she's trans? It's... it's a lot."
"I understand," Dominique replied. "But please, give me a chance."
After many hours of talking, Jasper finally agreed to open his home up to Dominique and provide her a place to live while she began her transition. She spent a week in Hammerlocke with him, getting to know him and vice-versa, then returned home to let her family know she was moving away for a while. With the ugly shadow of the past looming over her, she chose not to tell them why. Morag wasn't exactly pleased, but she accepted it and bid farewell to her firstborn. Dominique promised to keep in touch with Joy, but did not extend the same sentiments to her parents.
Dominique was only in Hammerlocke for three days before she began researching doctors and therapists and everything necessary for her transition. She'd waited a lifetime to be herself, and she was more than ready to live as authentically as she could. Her father, having no prior history with her, was able to catch on to her name and pronouns pretty easily, but fatherhood didn't come naturally to him. He more treated Dominique like she was a roommate than a child, but Dominique couldn't blame him. He'd gone his whole life without being a father, it would take time.
Once she established herself with an HRT doctor and therapist and had begun hormone therapy, Dominique set her sights on another goal: her education. While in Hammerlocke she began attending beauty school to be a hair stylist. All her life she'd been interested in hair, so it seemed like a natural choice. She enjoyed beauty school, and her classmates and teachers were accepting of her situation. Some even helped her improve her makeup skills and pooled money together to buy her a wig. Bit by bit, she was becoming the person she always knew she was.
A year after beginning HRT, with Jasper's help, she received electrolysis and facial feminization surgery. Two years on HRT she completed beauty school and had breast augmentation surgery. By the third year of HRT, she was working in a salon in Hammerlocke, had her final surgery, and finally evolved into a Grimmsnarl. Now twenty-one, she was able to look in the mirror and be happy with who looked back. The last thing she had to do was legally change her name and gender marker. Once that was finished, she began considering the next phase of her life. She decided that she would return to Ballonlea and confront her family. All this time, only Joy knew what she was going through. When she returned home, it would be the first time her parents saw her as who she really was.
Thanking her father for all his work and support and promising to keep in touch, Dominique bid farewell to Jasper and boarded the train to Stow-on-Side. The trip into Ballonlea was nerve-wracking, but Dominique did it, and knocked on the door to her parents' house. When Morag answered the door, she stared for a long time at Dominique, her expression unreadable. "You're not Alexander," she finally said.
"No, I'm not," Dominique replied. "I never was, Mom. I'm Dominique, and I'm done living a lie to make you happy."
Morag refused to accept her child as she was, though, and wouldn't let her into the house. Dominique, prepared for the worst, got a hotel and began searching for an apartment. Despite her mother's rejection of her, she was determined to stay in Ballonlea and make a life.
Dominique began life in Ballonlea much like her mother, in a studio apartment. She got a job at a hair salon and began saving for a nicer living space. However, it wasn't so easy. With Ballonlea being her hometown, several people from her past would crop up all the time, people who'd known her as Alexander. Everyday, it felt like she was dealing with someone from her past-- and not everyone was as kind about her transition as others.
Then she met Rose Atkinshire, and things started to change a little. Rose was from Motostoke, though her family had come from Ballonlea, and she was a hair stylist as well. She was hired in the same salon and her chair was beside Dom's. The two became fast friends, best friends even. Dominique watched as Rose met her husband and had her daughter, and wondered if that would ever be her life. In Ballonlea, it seemed almost impossible. No matter how long it'd been, it seemed like someone always knew about Alexander.
Then Rose began talking about Raccolto. "I love Ballonlea," she said, "but I was thinking of moving out there, for Elise. Actually, my sister just moved there a few months ago, and she's been having a great time."
"Raccolto?" Dominique inquired.
Rose told her all about it, prompting her to look up more information when she could. Intrigued, Dominique looked into the islands, and she found herself growing interested in them. Rose encouraged this. "We can start a salon together, get a fresh start in a great new place. If you and my sister are there, I think I will move there too. Ivy's really blossomed there, so I think it's a good idea."
So Dominique considered it and, after a few months of doing so, decided that she was willing to take the chance. She was willing to start life over on Raccolto.
"Great!" Rose exclaimed when she heard the news. "I'll tell my sister and she'll help you get settled in. I'll start figuring out the move for myself, but it's going to be a while before I'm able to come."
"That's okay," Dominique replied. "I can get the salon started while you do that. Get everything ready."
With that agreement made, Dominique packed up her life in Ballonlea and set her eyes on Raccolto.
Since coming to Raccolto, Dominique has. . .
Began the journey to adopt a child. As she completed the journey, she went to the Harvest Goddess to thank her, and received a blessing in return. She was gifted the means to become a Gigantamax Grimmsnarl. A few months later, she adopted her son, Shea .
Decided to bring another child into her family. She specifically wanted to adopt a trans child, so she could provide them with the loving and supportive home she never had. After some searching, she met Zoey , who she would go on to adopt. Like with Shea, the Goddess blessed her for her willingness to love and nurture others, and turned her shiny.
