Description
I just discovered the dump of PlayStation BIOS sprites on Spriters-Resource and got a little inspired. Included in the zip are three different layouts at 1080p resolution with a couple of variations. A couple of notes first:
These are not a one-to-one recreation of the PlayStation's aspect ratio, rather my fairly quick-and-dirty stylistic interpretation. For example, most of the elements have some added drop shadows to help them pop a little more.
The gradient splatters behind the headings have been scaled and modified. I discovered when I started working on this that every BIOS update had different colors and patterns but only SCPH-102A was dumped on Spriters-Resource.
If you're trying to get things to line up on a Windows desktop you'll likely have to turn off the 'Auto arrange icons' and 'Align icons to grid' options. You can also use CTRL+Mouse Wheel to scale the icons so they fit the grid however you like.
Included:
'Just the BG' and 'Just the BG (Alt)'
It's just that big blue/purple sphere that sits behind the menu items. The 'Alt' version has a couple extra spheres from the Main Menu spread around in case you like to see more geometric shapes on your desktop.
Main Menu 'Full' and 'Lite'
As seen after that legendary boot screen, it's the Main Menu of the PlayStation!. The menu items and sphere placement are pretty authentic to the original layout but the overall spacing is wider than a 4:3 CRT. The 'Lite' version just omits the 'MAIN MENU' box on the right side in case that bothers you.
Memory Card 'Full' and 'Lite'
Many an hour was spent on this screen making the gut-wrenching calls about what save files to delete because buying more memory cards was expensive! The arrangement is pretty faithful with just some extra space afforded between the columns. The 'Lite' version omits the column down the center in case you think it looks too garish, gaudy, or you just need the space for more icons.
Extras:
Check out VGCartography's excellent spread of memory card icons for some nostalgia or inspiration. NatSpectrum also has a set of memory card icons for use in Steam. However, you can download them pretty easily as the .ICO files you'd need to customize the Windows desktop to match these wallpapers.
