Description

Designed by Baktoid Armor Workshops and the Techno Union based upon schematics of the Corellian Engineering Corporation that had been a subsidiary of the Techno Union. Used on snowy worlds like Mygeeto, Ando Prime, Hoth, Vandor, Orti Plutonia, Kijimi, Agamar, Khorm, Allyuen, Lokondo, Alzoc III, Belsavis, Maldo Kreis, Bilzen, Lur, Cadomai Prime, Nelvaan, Carlac, Nixus, Crondte, Csilla, Obroa-skai, Diado, Ojom, Orto, Dolix 3, Polus, Edan II, Raxus II, Fest, Rhen Var, Rothana, Hays Minor, Saqqar, Scipio, Garnip, Ilum, Syned, Tah’Nuhna, Tokmia, Vandor, Toola, Vallt, Urdur, Zaadja and others, it often saw service alongside Cold Assault Battle Droid, Snow Droids and other specialized battle droid variants meant to operate in snowy and frozen landscapes. Instead of a repulsor, it used thruster engines to melt away the snow underneath and nearby it to dig a path trough. Original designed to serve as a pathway building vehicle capable of burning roads trough snow and ice so that even in deepest snow normal battle droids, speeders, speeder bikes, other hovers, walkers and even tracked vehicles would be capable of following their path in supply lines, or towards the battlefront itself. This would allow them to move their battle droid forces, which already needed no sleep, food or rest even more faster then that of the Galactic Republic, or the later Empire during their conflicts with them. The overall Spukmas, named originally after a Corellian type of cat-like being was in fact so successful, that soon specialized versions were created, one capable of plowing it’s way trough the battlefield itself, by adding additional armor and weapons to defend itself, as well as two specialized versions, the Spukamas Sandcat capable of creating pathways trough dunes and sandy deserts and the Spukamas Swampcat, able to make ways and paths trough swamps full of roots, algae and other plant and terrain obstacles within. Often times droid vehicles and automatized to save credits for a cockpit and live support for a crew, or simply driven by regular droids, the Spukamas Snowcat was an ideal tool not only for battle droid army movements, but also to access and secure supplies of other heavy machinery and tools to build up further Separatist industries and production facilities on this harsh climate and terrain worlds to boost the cause of the Separatist Alliance.

With many Spukamas Snowcats being only lightly armored, because the additional armor would drag them too much down, or increase their fuel need to much, they remained quit vulnerable to grenades, mortar, mines, rocket launchers, heavy blasters and other heavy weaponry targeting them. Because of this the Separatists soon started using additional support, often in form of B1 and B2 specialized snow battle droids riding alongside the vehicle to fire from it, or even disembark when needed to secure or scout the terrain in chase of an attack. A few versions therefor head their own additional shield or holoprojectors to cloak them, but these often were specially added in limited versions directly ordered by certain separatist Commander, Admiral or General, or even rigged together by Separatist organic and droid mechanics and technicians on the spot if the need of such modifications arose during a mission. Overall the Spukamas Snowcats saw limited use mostly on snow and ice worlds or terrain fitting for them and even there their overall numbers remained very low, often serving only as a pathway creation vehicle for the Separatist Alliance and the Confederate Army that saw service in special areas and limited numbers. This often lead Republic and Imperial special forces to directly target Spukamas Snowcats themselves, or rig and steal them for later use by the Republican and Imperial Troopers themselves. They then would often get a quick paint job to give them Republic/ Imperial colors, or even the insignia of the military groups who had now control over them. Most of the time however, this way way to dangerous, as these vehicles could not simply fly, or speed away from Separatist bases, meaning that sabotage, or outright destruction of them was most of the time the way to go, when trying to stop them. It was quick, safer and often even allowed the anti-Seperatist forces to be away from the explosion or other form of sabotage when it occurred. This meant that they often had not much risk, at least not if they had managed to sneak into the Separatist base, bunker, camp, fort or other facility without being spotted until they planted the explosives, or sabotaged the vehicle before leaving. Often this was also paired with Republic and Imperial attacks to caught the Separatist off-guard with their main means of transportation and path-making no longer functional during an enemy assault on them.
