Description Found this brightly colored, bizarre looking little spider in my yard last spring. Looked like a crab, really. I looked it up,  and they're referred to many various names, most commonly the Star Spider. I ended up finding three more in various spots around my front and back yards, and got some really amazing shots of these bright, spiny little arachnids

As much as spiders creep me out when I see them in person, this is a really cool capture! I've never seen a spider like this before...I'm stuck with the notorious brown recluses and wolf spiders.

I'm fascinated by spiders I see spinning or minding their webs... I do NOT like finding a spider by surprise, as I did at my front door the other night - my son stopped me, because I didn't see this huge thing next you the door, just above where we would have grabbed the handle - yikes! And I would not want to encounter a brown recluse or a wolf spider!
As long as I know where they are (outside),and they stay put,  I don't mind most spiders so much.
I have a really cool pic I haven't posted yet, of a spider that lived on our back porch for a cop months - he was awesome to watch...

I have a childhood memory that I'll never forget. I was about 7 years old, I had one of those swimsuits with the foam flotations in them. We'd always hang it on the landing above the garage steps to dry. This one day my dad was helping me put it on, right before I pulled it up and zippered it a HUGE wolf spider jumped out of the crotch of it. Needless to say, we always shook it out and checked it after that.

Yikes!  Traumatized!
I grew up with all kinds of weird bugs  - we had to shake out our shoes before putting them on, etc.  Luckily, I've never been stung or bitten by any of them...knock on wood!

I've had plenty of experiences with strange bugs as well. There's these black and orange ones called Boxelder Beetles that used to COVER the side of our house because of the pollen from the neighbor's tree. I used to be all into insects as a kid (I had plastic figurines of them), now they just give me the heebie jeebies!
