Description
Just a fun little screenmate application where Sherlock runs around investigating your desktop. I whipped this up pretty quickly using the Neko desktop application.You can download it here: sherlock-thegame.tumblr.com/po…
(Due to the cheap screen capture program, Sherlock looks black and white in the gif above. But in the program he's the correct color)
I may add a few more animations and characters in the future, but you're free to make them yourself from the character sprite gifs on my page

How to turn off Sherlock Neko:
WINDOWS: In NekoCFG, under the Movement tab, you can change his behavior so that he runs away from the mouse, runs around randomly, paces around the screen, runs around the screen, or you can disable him entirely by right-clicking the Neko icon in your taskbar and selecting Exit. You can also toggle him on and off by clicking the Neko application. (If you click the neko application while he is enabled, he will be disabled, and vice versa)
MAC: Cmd-click Sherlock. Choose “Put the Cat Out” from the menu.

Usually on applications that don't run on windows 8, you can right click the icon, go to properties, compatibility, then hit the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

Do you know how to create these icons? I wanted to try it myself, but have had limited success. I have got to the stage of having an icon library, but when I create a Neko of it the icons just seem to change randomly between each-other. Do you know how I can solve that?

You have to arrange the icon library in a certain order or it won't work right. I used Real World Icon Editor to make Sherlock ([link] . As long as you keep the icons in the right order, it should work perfectly for all the sprites on my page.
If you use our sprites to create more screenmates, we'd love to feature your work on our development website! I'd make them myself if I had the time, but I'm way too busy with development work to do any extra fun stuff like this.

I like him, but I also would like to know how to turn the program off. I have a Mac so I don't have a task bar like Windows does. How would I do it?

I don't own a mac, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you. If cmd-clicking doesn't work, you could always just force quit the program from the cmd+opt+esc menu ([link] ).

Okay, so all of that plus a restart finally got rid of it. Consider this a good test run of your neko for Mac. I really do not mean any insult at all, I think the whole game idea is really cool or I wouldn't have downloaded it in the first place. Just, maybe Mac users need to be warned.

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help to you. Neko was really made to run on a windows system, so it's understandable that there might be some issues in the mac version. I haven't heard any other mac users having any problems with it, but if I get more reports, I'll take the link down.

The problem is, it isn't showing up as a program at all. It's like it doesn't exist, but there it is on my desktop, and I can't just throw it away because it says it is in use.
I've now tried an app uninstaller, and it isn't doing anything to it. The whole file has been thrown away and it still isn't gone.

You can always exit the program from your task bar. Or you can change his behavior if you don't want him to chase your mouse.
