Description Dedicated to the game of my childhood, beautiful and legendary, now forgotten - Kyrandia. Thank you, Westwood Studios, for a wonderful piece of art I was raised on.

The idea is borrowed from the game, you can find the original here. www.talking-time.net/showthrea…

I finished it only now but the first sketch of it I made is like a year old. About time, heh.

Yeah, my vision of Spike. Not that I'd like him to grow up, he's perfect the way he is. But we all get this wish sometimes, to let the characters live in our mind and change over time. And I wanted to draw older Spike cause... I don't like any of the variations I've seen so far. Whether a fat dragon from "Cutie Mark Chronicles" or that abomination from "Secret of my Excess", and somehow I think Hasbro would make him a flier even though he's obviously a land dragon. *sigh*

Not that I should be proud much, I know it's far from perfect. Especially Twilight, I failed at digitalizing her. You know how it goes, you make a sketch and remember what to be changed when you'll be working on the final color version, but then you go zoom 2000% and forget it all. XDΒ

And I overload my picture again. I know I must be decisive and follow one path, yet I get temptation to try making it more simple, more Flash-like, make Flash shadows instead of... these. If a pro artist would look at that, he'd say I'm a gauss-blur-addict. XD *shameshame* So... yeah, fail at following Flash. Sorry.

"Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that a juvenile dragon can eat up to 10 pounds of diamonds per day. Please send more gems.
Yours truly, Twilight"

Well, I expected Darm to be Starswirl the Bearded, but... Brandywine is more like Spike, and if we remember that Twilight is sometimes cosplaying Starswirl, probably she is the best choice for Darm's place.

I wonder, who'd be Kallak? Brandon? Malcolm? (Probably, for Malcolm it's Pinkie, but it does not fit so well as Twilight and Spike for Darm and Brandywine).

I don't think there was Starswirl back then. He'd be Darm, Twilight would be Brandon, Kallak would be Celestia and Discord would be Malcolm. Or Twi as Darm and Applebloom as Brandon. That would be a weird role-play. Trixie could play Malcolm well too.

Makise-Homura In reply to sherwoodwhisper [2019-01-25 12:14:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, Discord as Malcolm is the best idea I guess! They both are nice tricksters, and even though Malcolm in Book One is nothing but a villain, in Book Three he is a positive person; so is Discord after he has been reformed.
And for Celestia... Uhm, probably if we compare relationships between Kallak and Brandon, and Celectia and Twilight, it might be nice analogy. But we have to skip that thing that Twilight is really, uhm, obsessed with Celestia (or, more correct, with the idea of Celestia's perfectness), which is not a subject for Brandon. Trixie and Applebloom... Maybe, but I have no idea about how to identify parallels with them.
Ok, so we can think about Zanthia (Zecora?), Brynn (idk, she should be a good mage without evil sides of personality, so it's not Starlight, and absolutely not Trixie; maybe Sunburst?), etc. And what about Kyragem? Probably it's Crystal Heart?

Very Nice, seeing spike lay like that makes me think of my brothers of the furry persuasion. On that note, it would be funny to see him twitch his leg while having his belly scratched.

This is my favorite depiction of Spike as a grown dragon. You really did an excellent job on him. I love the warmth this piece exudes, and how Twilight and Spike are still together. Beautiful artwork.

Oh, this is nice. It's a sweet, comfortable scene between two characters who love each other, and despite his big size, Spike's twisty sleeping position, with his big feet up in the air, looks adorable ... Actually that's probably because of his size. The warm glow adds a lot, but it doesn't seem to have any source. I'm guessing there's a really bright candle hidden behind his head.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sherwoodwhisper In reply to BoneSatellite [2013-11-10 16:53:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I think Spike wouldn't leave Twilight's side even when his size became a threat to the library tree. And Twilight would rather fix claw-marks on the floor every day and tolerate his appetite and clumsy tail-swings to not let go.

You're right, there's no definite light source cause a candle would give rather scary shadows and a ceiling lamp would add a drag-attention spot outside the picture. So I tried to use light as another shape in the middle. More like going from Twilight's emotions. You think it feels weird and makes one look for the source?

Lovely picture, too! I always enjoy pictures that tell a story.

Thanks. And I think you'd want to watch a "Let's play" on YT, cause Kyrandia 1 and 2 are pretty old and take a Win 98 and a computer made in 90s. Maybe someone has made a remake by now but I dunno. Good luck anyway.

Aww, no, adventure games are much more fun to play yourself. You can play all the Kyrandia games in ScummVM, too!

sherwoodwhisper In reply to schneelocke [2013-11-10 17:04:05 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I used to rage-quit Hand of Fate cause of the impossible riddles. Or maybe they were for a child I was. Luckily, my father who also loved these games and actually showed them to me was clever enough to have printed the walk-through's for all the riddle games he played. Like Myst, Broken Sword, Zork, King Quest 7... Oh, nostaliga ^__^

I will try that thing you mentioned. I'd love to play good old games again.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

schneelocke In reply to sherwoodwhisper [2013-11-10 19:20:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah... good times. I loved most of the old LucasArts adventures, from Maniac Mansion to Day of the Tentacle (didn't really play the ones after that anymore, though), and I also played quite a few Sierra ones, not to mention various others like Simon the Sorceror, Gobliiins, and so on.

Good luck with ScummVM! It's pretty cool, and plays an amazing number of 2D point-and-click adventures, with more yet being worked on.
