ugh, i hate it so much when people say they have depression. like, yeah something bad happened, you got the right to be depressed and sad, that doesnt mean you have a disorder. get a diagnosis and i'll respect you biiiitch lol (i have a diagnosis for mdd so fight me)

I've actually been diagnosed with this condition and find it offensive someone gets hurt once in their life and think they have depression. They're just sad and will get over it. I've been through this agony for years.

I've suffered from depression for about four years now. It's not a fucking trend. Every day I wake up, take a little "miracle pill" that doesn't do anything but put me back to sleep. Depression has left me with literal scars, bad grades, failed relationships/friendships, fits of hysteria, trips to the hospital, etc.
My loathing for when people fake depression is beyond comprehension. Trust me when I say that if you joke about depression, or use it as an accessory, I'll put you through a fucking wall. I also kinda feel the same for self-diagnosis because before I was diagnosed officially by a doctor, people were like "you might have this" and i was in denial of it for so long. That's like self diagnosing yourself with cancer. What the fuck is wrong with you. But I get it when cases are obvious but when people are like "yeah i took a test online" im like "go dig yourself a hole and bury yourself in it"
its
not
a
fuckING
TREND

I understand what you are saying, our culture has romanticized depression however no one really teaches anyone about what depression actually is when you are younger, so it's easy to say 'I'm depressed' when you are just having bad time, but personally this hits me a little hard because some of the people who will see this may actually have depression and it can make them feel bad for believing they have depression, therefore they go on being depressed and not telling anyone about it or getting any help.
So yes, I understand why it's annoying to see all these rants about being depressed when chances are they are not, but sometimes it's just better to roll your eyes and move on instead of possibly hurting someone who is actually depressed but hasn't been diagnosed for a number of reasons.

//I do agree that someone people use depression as a synonym for sadness which isn't cool, but I feel like if I saw this stamp on someone's blog I'd be p. put off.

I'm not saying that people who get a direct diagnosis are lying. But seeing as you're someone who actually has depression would you go around be like "Yeah I'm depressed pay attention to me"?

Someone confided in me about being diagnosed with clinical depression, and I told her that I've been diagnosed with a type of depression too.
Sort of a confide in each other moment, but she didn't believe me. It really upset me.
But I see people who clearly don't have depression, they feel sad and are quick to say that they have it.
If people say things like "I think I MAY have depression" I feel more inclined to try and listen and help with them.
I don't want to quickly jump to the "no you don't have it" though, because I can't read people's minds.

Seeing as I made this stamp in 2012, I have grown older and wiser since then, lol. I know more about depression now and all that. What I was trying to say with this stamp was simply that all these 12-year-old, having a rough day/time and then pretend as if they have depression because it sounds better than "I'm sad, pay attention to me." I'm all for supporting people who actually have a medical diagnosis or generally don't feel well for longer periods of times. There's also a difference on having someone 17+ years old tell you that they might have depression and someone who's 12-14 years old tell you that they definitely have depression because they're sad today.

I have lived with my depressed mother for years, and have been shut away from her for years during my childhood.
It is more than just an accessory.

Same, dude, same. My mother started being depressed when I was 4 or 5, really bad. It then became a personality disorder and first now, when I'm 19, does she begin to feel better.

I had a medium depression ONCE in my life before I had to start taking medication against it and I never want to have it again! Now I am GLADLY only sad for no apparent reason, but not the way it was back then, though my psychiatrist things I have a risk to fall back into it again even if I take medication. I hope not of course. I still don't like it, not even this normal sadness. But depression is far worst.
Damn the people who are calling themselves depressed actually SHOULD get a real depression!

I normally just say "I'm feeling shitty".
Although chances are I do suffer from some sort of disorder that manifests in depressive symptoms, I'm not a goddamn doctor, so I can't diagnose myself.
I also don't have very good health insurance, so I can't get somebody who can diagnose me, either.
I just treat it, whatever "it" may be, with marijuana and alcohol.

Lol I have depression pretty badly and ptsd and a mood disorder but sadly im on meds and really the meds have changed my life greatly I just wish I didnt have to take them.. Or atleast become better to the point I do not need them anymore. But I agree the people who make journals about being depressed and stuff honestly just want attention... I would just ignore it and comment on the journals when theyre happy and saying awesome stuff so hopefully train them like lil kids... if a kid does something bad and you scold him but when hes doing good you dont praise them hes going to aparently do bad things cause he got more attention. You know? But when I read the stamp I was going to rant lol but then I read the bio. So yep I agree xD

You can. You don't have to suffer from depression all the time to have it and be diagnosed with it.

Well I've had horrible clinical depression and have been medicated for it, but when I met Jed it just seamed to have vanished but when he's not around I slowly start to sink back into a depressive state. I do agree that there are people out there that think they have it.

But I do agree with you that people often complain about having depression when it's just a sad moment. Unfortunately for me there are times that nothing can really help and I just have a day or too where I feel horrible, I don't want to eat or sleep, thankfully that hasn't happened often except for the past few days.
