Description

And here is the second of the two pieces that I had make for me.

Allow me to introduce Marcus Pollo. He might not look like much but once you take a look at his profile, I think you guys will agree he is surprising to say the least.

Character by

Marcus Pollo is a former adventurer from Earth who now resides in the lost Dungeon City of Dorado. He is Eztli the Ocelomeh's husband and works odd jobs in the Dungeon City.

Appearance

Marcus is a young man with short, bowl-cut black hair that covers half his face and is normally messy with strands of his hair poking out all over the place. He has brown eyes that are normally covered by his hair, though they do show up most of the time. He tends to wear ragged clothes from his days as an adventurer (though he also admits to not owning much in terms of clothing) and carries around a brown satchel bag he uses to store whatever belongings he can carry.

Personality

Marcus is normally a helpful and kind type of person, and he is very timid despite his age due to his past life under the adventuring group, the Purple Pythons. Always worrying about others, Marcus aids anyone that needs help not minding to help out and not seeking a reward when offered something in return for his aid. Though people think of him as reserved for his habit of not talking much, in truth, Marcus is just worried that whatever he says may harm someone and thus he doesn't speak as often as he would or should. In fact, before meeting Eztli, Marcus was so fearful of others that he would do whatever he was told to do and then get out of the way so that he would not incur attention from anyone.

After meeting Eztli (and marrying her), Marcus has slowly but surely regained confidence in both himself and his skills (a major part of him that he felt was unnecessary). He has spoken more to others, gained friends with Eztli pushing him to be more aggressive, and even shows small bouts of courage when facing adversity rather than avoiding problems like he used to. Due in large part to his new surroundings, Marcus regained his old fire when it came to exploration and can be seen exploring his new home or going with Eztli to different places to show her more than the home she's used to.

While exploring, Marcus is a very serious adventurer and is always cautious when entering a new dungeon or locale that is considered dangerous. He always warns his friends if he detects any traps or enemies that will cause them harm, and goes out of his way to disengage or distract such obstacles until it is safe for his allies. While he is not prone to combat as his skills are more for exploration, he will always jump into the fray if it means he can help in some way. He is also surprisingly tough on anyone who throws themselves into needless trouble, and can loose his timid nature when he scolds or vehemently explains to that person what kind of danger they could be in. All in all, Marcus is someone that cares for others more than himself and will go to great lengths to make sure everyone survives.

Abilities/Powers

Natural Abilities

Exploration Magic/Skills

Marcus's main unique skill is known as “Perfect Trajectory,” a skill that allows him to know the exact layout of any dungeon or ruins he finds himself in, even if he has never been there before. This skill also allows him to know exactly the position of his allies and enemies, making it effectively impossible for anyone (within a dungeon) to actually sneak up on Marcus. Perfect Trajectory also allows Marcus to create the best routes, which is a downside as these routes can be extremely difficult or long if Marcus's skill deems such a route necessary. Marcus can only guarantee that the route he is taking will be the best for survival and can only choose a path deemed “safe” if he's explored it.

Trap Magic

Another of Marcus's skill is “Trap Control,” which allows him to disengage or activate traps when he is near one. With his Perfect Trajectory and Trap Control, Marcus is able to go through most dungeons effectively as he can avoid the dangers such places present. Trap Control is also useful when Marcus finds treasure contained in various objects, as he can tell immediately if the treasure is worth the trouble or not by how many traps are on the object.

Expert Tracker

Due to his unique skills, Marcus is an expert tracker, making it easy for him to tell what kind of creatures are within the dungeon, and he can follow anyone within a dungeon with ease. Even outside of dungeons, Marcus can always tell where the animal trails of certain creatures are by looking for the signs most animals leave behind.

Survival Magic/Skills

Having the two unique skills that allow him to make dungeon maps and avoid dangerous traps, Marcus had to also learn how to cast certain types of magics to make his life easier whenever he traverses a dungeon. He is able to cast magic to remove toxins and poisons from his system, cast minor healing spells (that work on the level of first-aid), and has learned enough elemental magic that he can ignite small fires or form water from the air. While he can use these spells to “fight,” due to his personality, he prefers not to abuse his powers and thus only knows elementary/basic level magic.

Other

Marcus is a talented cook, as he was forced for many years to actually do the cooking for the entire party and can handle large events thanks to that. He is also well versed in repairing equipment for exploring dungeons (from sewing to blacksmith work), has the know-how to fix most carpentry problems, and has the knowledge to create potions and other healing salves when magic fails to be an option. He also manages to be a decent musician with string instruments, with his favorite being the violin.

Tools

Magic Bag

Like any adventurer from his world, Marcus has with him a bag that has been magically enchanted to store large amounts of objects and treasures. The bag is enchanted to be light enough for Marcus to always carry without any issues and durable enough for any sort of dungeon, weather, or rough situation Marcus could ever get himself into. Marcus normally carries a tent, several blankets, camping tools/equipment, rations, extra clothing, a couple of cases of water, a single violin, and other tools to help him in dungeon exploration within his bag at all times.

Lock-pick Tools

Despite his unique skills, Marcus carries within his bag a set of tools to help him disengage traps that need a more hands-on approach to having traps removed. He states that there are traps not magical in existence so having a set of tools that helps in removing such traps is always a necessary precaution.

Dagger

Marcus carries with him a dagger he uses for self-defense that was a gift from his family when he set off to become an adventurer. It is also a useful tool for other things such as cooking, removing traps, and so forth.

Relationships

Family

Born as the sole son of Johnathon and Delilah Pollo, Marcus lived a pretty normal life until it was discovered he had talent to be an adventurer. Though his parents were against it, they realize that the young Marcus would seek adventure one way or another, and thus did what they could to give Marcus his chance at being an adventurer before reminding him that he could always still work at his family's farm. Even after becoming an adventurer, Marcus would always send his family cards to let them know how he is doing and send some money from his share of the spoils to help his folks. When he eventually return to his home with Eztli to let his folks know of his new wife, he was glad to see his folks accepted Eztli despite her being what others refer to as a monster.

Eztli

While the way they met and married was rather rushed and haphazard (at least, from Marcus's own perspective), Marcus has come to truly love and care for Eztli the Ocelomeh. Eztli has been nothing but positive and encouraging to Marcus, and used all of her strength and will to get him back on his feet from years of slavery and degradation from the Purple Pythons. In fact, while she is forceful due to her beliefs, she is rather soft and easygoing with him at home, asking for what she thinks are “foolish” romantic gestures (such as head pats, cuddling, and other soft ways to show affection). Unlike everyone else who considers Eztli's smile to be scary or are uncomfortable when she does genuinely smile, Marcus is surprisingly unaffected by it and rather thinks its cute. He has no qualms over how they met and eventually asked her if she would like to travel to other dungeons and eventually to his home so that he can introduce her to his folks. She agreed and after a few adventures across dungeons, met Marcus's parents, who found their new daughter-in-law to be charming like Marcus. While he never voices his own thoughts, Marcus deep down knows that if it were not for Eztli, he'd never be able to handle life like he used to.

Friends

Nick Pirogov, Bennosuke “Ben” Miyamoto, & Merlin Weyward

A Healer, a Swordsman, and a Sorcerer respectively who were with Marcus when Eztli and her team found them all while the adventuring team, the Purple Pythons, ditched them to escape monsters in the dungeon they were exploring. The other three members became the husbands to each member of Eztli's team with Nick and Nacde ending up together, Atzin with Bennosuke, and Merlin with Yaotl. Each of the three were also mistreated and were disliked for various reasons by the Pythons: Nick's healing only working half the time due to his fear of blood and battle, Bennosuke having injured his dominant arm when he adventured solo being “dead-weight,” and Merlin's spells having a rebound effect due to a cursed charm that would not allow him to cast spells normally. The three are happy now with their respective wives, and Eztli lets Marcus have time with his fellow former adventurers so that Marcus builds some confidence and have male friends. He admits that he's glad the three ended up together in the Dungeon City of Dorado as the three have helped him with his confidence. When the four are working together, they are shown to be a surprisingly a well-balanced team in terms of exploration and combat. The four, when not with their wives, are found at the local square enjoying drinks, complaining about their time with the Pythons, and playing card games with the deck of cards that Nick still owns.

History

Childhood

Born on a remote village out in the wilderness, Marcus grew up with his two parents normally and aided in the family farm to make ends meet. However, this changed when at the age of ten, it was discovered that Marcus had the aptitude to become an adventurer. When the news came to his folks, they at first didn't want him to go and become one, but eventually caved in when Marcus begged them and made a surprising logical argument of him becoming one. To that end, Marcus became the apprentice of an ex-adventurer named Maffeo, who showed the young Marcus the necessary skills he would need to become an adventurer. Learning magic from a friend of Maffeo's friend, Kublai, Marcus showed great promise and the men were very proud of Maffeo's protege.

After a few years, at the age of sixteen, Marcus was declared ready to register with the Adventurers Guild. His folks, while saddened that they would likely not see their son often, made sure he was ready and gave him a dagger to protect himself. Thanking them, Marcus left his home and after reaching the capital signed up for the first team that would require his services.

The Purple Pythons

After a week of no one hiring him, Marcus was ready to simply give up and head for home when an adventuring team known as the Purple Pythons finally hired him. Ecstatic at the chance to finally be a part of an actual team, Marcus did not question them when they produced a “liability contract” to have him sign. What Marcus had actually signed, however, was a slave contract and from that point on, Marcus was forced to be a member of the Purple Pythons.

At first, while he was miffed that he had been tricked, he felt his skills were proving to be useful and shouldered his anger as he worked with the Pythons. Of course, the truth soon came out that the Purple Pythons were abusing his skills to save on money on stuff they would need for the dungeons they explored. At first, Marcus tried to figure out how to stop the contract but when the leader of the Pythons, Haeger, learned what he was doing, he made sure his team began to abuse Marcus mentally, physically, and spiritually until Marcus lost his will.

For the next six years, the life that Marcus led was nothing but a nightmare, and he would often beg for someone or something to take his life during the dungeons or in his sleep. Seeing others fall into the same trap that he had fallen for didn't make him feel any better, and he could only wonder how long it would be before he was finally disposed of by the Pythons.

Meeting Eztli & Co.

One day, the Pythons decided to handle one of the toughest dungeons in the southern part of the world known simply as the Dungeon of Dorado. Said to hold more treasures than any other dungeon, the Pythons were confident that they could handle whatever the dungeon would throw at them. As the entire team explored, however, things were not going as planned for them due to the many monsters and dangerous plants. Even Marcus, who could tell where the monsters/traps were located, found there was something there that was messing up his own skills and thus rendering him “useless” in the eyes of his so called comrades.

Near an area that Marcus was sure was dangerous, the Pythons finally decided to get rid of the dead-weight that Marcus and three other “members” (Nick Pirogov, Bennosuke “Ben” Miyamoto, & Merlin Weyward) were being and the four were ordered by Haeger to be the bait for the monster that had been following them the entire time. Marcus wondered if his prayers had finally been answered as he and the four waited for their doom while the rest of the Pythons rushed to a path they had located.

As it turned out, the “monster” turned out to be four creatures known as the Ocelomeh, half-human/half-jaguar warriors who were well known to be berserkers by many. The leader of the band, Eztli, declared the four as their property and told them they would be taken to their home, the Lost Dungeon City of Dorado. Nick, however, pointed out that they could not follow them as the contract would not allow them to move from the spot they were in. After a bit of thinking, however, Merlin spoke of a long shot and told the Ocelomeh to use their weapons (given to them by their “gods” and which sapped the strength of those that were struck by them) on the collars that kept them bound to the Pythons.

The gamble paid off and the four men found their freedom, whereupon the Ocelomeh took the four to the Dungeon City. The four were very surprised to find themselves in such a place but were even more surprised when the four were quickly married to their saviors in a ceremony that the entire city was invited to. Thus ended Marcus's life as an adventurer of the Purple Pythons and started his new life with his new wife, Eztli the Ocelomeh.

Life in the Dungeon City

At first, it was difficult for Eztli to get Marcus to come out of his funk on being rather “useless” in his own terms and to gain any true confidence in himself. He would often belittle himself and wish he could do more for Eztli (surprisingly being okay to marrying her in such an unorthodox manner). Eventually, Eztli began to show Marcus around Dorado and with the help of her friends, her family, her clan, and many of the residents of the Dungeon City, Marcus began to have confidence and the two began to spend nights better in each other's company. While she would still go out to hunt and help out where she could, Eztli would always return happily to Marcus's arms and enjoy her time with him.

That isn't to say that things had been easy for the two after meeting and marrying. At one point, a surviving member of the Purple Pythons (Haeger) not only made it to the Dungeon City but tried to enslave Marcus and his fellow former adventurers again. Though the man was dealt with by Eztli, the event darkened much of the city's mood as no adventurer had ever made it to their home without the aid of the Ocelomeh or one of the monstrous residents of Dorado. So for a while, Eztli (along with many of the other Ocelomeh) was forced into making sure that the Dungeon City was undetectable again, leaving Marcus alone for long periods of time. Eztli, having a powerful instinct and wishing to fulfill her duties to the Tezcatlipoca, nearly went out of her mind but when the danger was deemed passed, she was glad to return to her Marcus. In fact, as a reward for her hard work, Marcus, Nick, Ben, and Merlin threw their respective wives a small celebration together to thank them for all their hard work.

After a while, however, the two eventually decided to set off an adventure of their own to explore other dungeons and to let Marcus's family know of the two marrying.
