What paper do you use please ?

Thanks
I usually draw on Winsor & Newton smooth surface paper. This one however was on a slightly rougher (I think watercolor) paper.

Breathtaking! I cant see how it could possibly be any better. It really looks like a photograph!
But please tell me one thing. How do you make the shading so smooth? whenever i shade it ends up grainy even though i use tissues and shading pens. I'm guessing its the paper i use (A4 printer paper) I'd really appreciate it if you'd share some shading tips

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shimoda7 In reply to MachoPony [2012-10-03 18:40:19 +0000 UTC]

The paper does have influence in the result. You might want to try drawing paper and use cotton pads for blending. Remember, your technique is the most important of all. Do your shadings with patience and you'll see improvement.

Beautiful work. I love the soft shades and the eyes.

May I ask, what kind of cotton pads do you use for blending? I used Q-tips once but didn't get that good results.

shimoda7 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2012-08-10 18:28:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
As for the cotton pads, they're just regular round ones women often use to remove their makeup.

Stunning work, i love your hole gallery. How do you do the light hairs? Do you erase them? In my own practices i try to erase them with flexible eraser but its every time to thick.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shimoda7 In reply to Annamoon77 [2012-05-28 20:28:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I do both erasing and drawing thin lines. That way you have more control over the result.

artist--in--progress [2012-02-18 04:56:23 +0000 UTC]

how do you do the shading? do you blend with your finger? or is it just adding value with the pencils (sorry i can never tell, ive been wanting to start portraits but im slightly fearful)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shimoda7 In reply to artist--in--progress [2012-02-19 21:41:58 +0000 UTC]

I do blend, but not with my finger. I use cotton pads for that, which work well for me.
