Description After some feedback from the good folks on the /m/ boards, I tried changing the hair to fire instead of the razor metal, and while this is pretty raw, I think the effect is overall positive. Thoughts?

The contrast is nice. With some firelight reflections the contrast should really stand out. Nice pic.

I like it too. I've decided to invest the time in a new pic, one where I can plan out some of the colors better. This was just a quick recolor to test a suggestion. Know any good fire painting tutorials?

Oh nice, it's always nice when some of our older work gets some new life like that heh.

I don't unfortunately but Youtube might have something along that lines.

The head is hilariously tiny, and robots don't need "hair".

Hahaha true. I find a smaller (proportionally) head tends to make the mech look more imposing, though I maaaay have gone a bit far. As for the 'hair', where is your sense of style? Of adventure? It's a giant robot! I figured you would have suspended disbelief well before hair became an issue.

And in this case, the 'hair' is just the exhaust from the 'engine' that runs this thing.

I prefer to get my style through functional design. Badassery should come from the reality of how badass something is, rather than something as subjective as a pose. [link]

Oh, I agree to a point (and that link, btw, is crazy cool); but I guess it all falls on the spectrum of what you consider cool. Your aesthetic is very utilitarian, mine tends to be a little more ornate (for instance, while I think utility is important, I have no problem erring on the side of style vs utility). And pose is important! It helps convey the attitude of your piece, the personality of your machine! Compare the differences to Kunio Okuwara's Dragonar Unit 1 vs the same machine drawn by Masami Obari. It's leagues apart in terms of presentation.

Style is fine, too. I'm a fan of The Big O. [link]

But even heavy aesthetics can have functionality.

Thanks! I fear it may be a little close to the Ialdaboth from SRW, but the flaming hair helps a little.
