Description Drawing Mecha

Last week I took part in a series of five video art sessions where I covered ‘Drawing Mecha’ that was featured on Facebook. I had been asked quite some time ago to do something like this but I was unable due to the numerous health concerns, surgeries, and recovery that I was going through at that point in time. Alright then... I’m sure most of you know, but just in case, ‘Mecha’ of course refers to the drawing of robots and mechanicals i.e., a science fiction genre that centers on robotics or machines. For example, Gundam Wing, Voltron, the Tripod Walker from ‘War of the Worlds’, and of course Transformers are all part of the Mecha genre. In this case, I was demonstrating how I approach the drawing of Transformers and these are just some of the various sketches I did using Metatisic, Megatron, and Cyclonus for my subjects --Legs and faces, etc. Enjoy!

P.S. This would be the first time I have drawing any Transformers since my surgery. I expected to be a lot more rusty. I was kinda surprised I did as well as I did, or so I think so

It's beautiful.  I know you see a lot of flaws in it, because it is your work, but to us, it's stunning!  You are such a talented artist.

Yeah, I do see some flaws here. I’m my own worse critic. I actually think all artists are *l* Most of which are personal aesthetics. This session here was my first time drawing TFs again in a good 2-3 years and well, long story short, Metatisic has a few facial features that really are/should be separate from his son. His cheek plates are much more higher up than Megatron’s w/ a slightly smaller nose. Megatron’s are more like this here, long and lower on his face. It’s personal things. Anyway, thank you. I may re-attempt this work again now that I've had some more time since to address my cosmic rust *heehee*

And you call this cosmic rust...while the poor mechs like me call it gorgeous!

Thank you, hon. I thought for sure I was going to bomb it. I loved doing it, but I still thought I was gonna mess something up on camera *l* I’m pretty sure I hadn’t drawn a single Transformer, robot anything in a few years at least. Been a rocky road, but enough of the past —YOU’VE greatly improved! I’ve been watching all your art. I’m sorry, I should comment or leave a post to say so once in a while, but I have in fact been watching and reading everything. What is your new name?

Welp. Can’t make everyone happy it seems. The Decepticons-Only group just declined my share of this. Well jeez louise. Guess they just want finished pieces. Sad. I always loved the rough beauty of art in the rough.

Ahhh yeah man it's been AGES, but I can totally understand that. I haven't done any TF in years here either, I really miss them, especially Megatron <3

Oh gosh, really? XD DA is so dead these days that I never know who is really here, still lurking or just poofed, haha. The game I'm into is Dragon Age. Really got me into some organics, which is great, but I would love to see if I can somehow work those improvements into some TF related art as well. ^^ I really do miss Megatron, and my OC's, haha.

Oh really? Psh, yeah, maybe they don't do sketches? Which is a real shame when it comes to groups, because I ADORE sketches, rough, clean, whatever. Sketches are actually some of my favourite art, I love how raw they are. :'D

No problem. You know, sometimes you have to step away. You’re certainly not any less of a fan for doing so and absolutely do not ever let anyone convince you otherwise. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder because I fell in love with Transformers back when I first saw it as a Saturday morning cartoon. I was about 9 then and until I was about 14, I literally ate, slept, and frick’in BREATHED that show! *lol* No joke. Come that time only the Marvel comic was left and then suddenly they went and I went too. I didn’t find TF again until 2002 when it quite literally exploded back into my life! I was able to fall in love all over again and this time, buy all of the figures I wanted so badly when I was a child ....I just bought the Tyrant Masterpiece Galvatron. He came the other day. My friend... *gasp* .... I’ve waited 30 years for that mech to look like this. I was so happy I literally cried. He’s striking a convo w/ MP Megatron right now. Guess he stole the Delorean and shot back to 1985 to give future information to himself *heehee*

Anyhoo, before I run off at the lips, exploring other subjects and styles actually is the best thing for a artist because it helps to improve your overall technique. For example, this is why I can juggle doing some mecha one day, anime the next, and a canvas painting of Doc Brown the day after. People who don’t explore grow stagnant. If you do one style only then all you’ll really know is that one direction.

Definitely agree. They always come back, and with a force, too. I did it with Harry Potter when I was like 12 XD And then ten years later I just fell in love with it all over again and got even more into the fandom than I was all those years ago. Same with Beetlejuice. I'm sure it will happen with TF's again XD Just have to wait long enough haha.

Certainly, You know, it never really 'leaves', I mean I was still buying the toys, etc., if I found someone I was looking for, TF books and things. It's just that I wasn't applying my art to it as I had. There was really no one to share it with. Not then. Anyhoo, it always comes around. BTW, there is 3 brand-new updates to Metatisic. I finally relocated Addie. I'm so glad. She'd been sick too, but her situation had been far more mortal. She could have died o_O;

True, while I don't buy anything [although let's be honest I would if it were Megatron and Shockwave XD], I still always look in the TF section in shops and stuff, and I still like and reblog posts on tumblr from time to time, I still will always love it, and it's a HUGE part of my life, haha. I do wish I had the motivation to draw more for it, though.

Pretty sure I just heard you clear over here. Yeah, there's a couple actually --- The Takara which is on preorder: tfsource.com/masterpiece/mp-sh… and then the FT version which is out right now. I have this one: tfsource.com/fanstoys/FT-03T-q… Just between you, me, and the fence post, the FT version is far more accurate IMO.

He is, yeah. The MPs are and I've found myself a bit bug eyed over the price tags myself when I see them. Thankfully I'm very specific about which MPs I buy and know I'm only going to have to shell out like that once in a blue moon. If it isn't Megatron, Galvatron, Cyclonus, Shockwave, or only Autobot I give a squat about, Jazz, then I can live without. Galvatron I just bought, but the MP Cyclonus is running late. He was supposed to be out in November and I've had him on pre-order since August! I am literally DYING to get him in my life.
