So I banged this sketch of Ratigan out in under a minuet--speed drawing, you know I love it!It took me much longer to clean it up, 'line it and color though. Anyways, I was surprised that he came out so well for my first time drawing him. And I actually like the colors I used!
I'll definitely do more Ratigan later. Enjoy!

Smoke is like a character in itself in that it seems so alive and can change the mood of a scene and it definitely adds to Ratigan's evil presence. Plus, smoke is kinda fun to draw XD!

There is right? Its funny 'cuz cigs and smoke can add so much to a drawing-I love the feelings it can help invoke. But in real life I don't care for cigs at all-I like my lungs healthy.
Thanks! Yup, I have to draw on the go a lot so speed drawing is something I had to pick up. Of course some turn out better than others--the others really are kind of scribbly XD!

Yeah, this really was my first attempt at drawing Ratigan and it looks good 'cuz I used a reference XD. I'm much more comfortable drawing characters without refs which means that I first have to do a lot of practice drawings! I really love drawing Ratigan smoking for some reason...yeah, I have to put some time aside to finish those. I'm so horrible at time management -_-;;

Awesome drawing, i saw this movie in theaters when i was 5 during it's 86 release 4 times and had some of the merchandise like a readalong book with cassette, soundtrack and even a stuffed Basil. Too bad it never came out on video for 7 years as i wanted it and would ask my video stores when i was 6 if it will come to video but nothing happened then in 92 it came back in theaters, saw it at 10 and also got it on video for christmas.

Thanks a bunch! Its great that you got to see it when it was still new and in theaters--I don't think I did. Sad to say that I didn't get any of the merchandise until after the '92 release but I did get a Basil plush XD!

Rattigan is my boo! Oh man, you did a lovely job on him! 
So you like to draw without reference, huh? Same here. Although I do think I love a lot closer to the actual style of shows and such when I look at reference...I think they end up looking too stiff and lifeless for me. When I try to do characters and poses from my head, I find they look for fluid and full of life, although they might not look exactly like the show's style. That's merely what I noticed about my art though. It's different for everybody.

Without ref. can just be easier in that you don't have tons of papers to look back and forth through. And that's especially helpful when you don't have the ref with you when your out.
I like characters both on model and done in other styles--it makes everything more interesting. I've found that only practice and taking life drawing helps with making more fluid drawings. I've tried to stay on model and they do come out a bit stiff for me too--its like it has less life in it because its not really from you.

Yeah, Ratigan has an all around great design! Love his sharp teeth too! His teeth make me want to draw him attacking something with blood and stuff...I may eventually do that once I'm more comfortable with drawing him.

i think i might have to disagree with you on that one. animated sequels hardly ever do well, besides my favorite character died at the end of the first one. (RIP professor ratigan ) lol ^-^

That's true about sequels...but I'd still watch it--even if I ended up not liking it I would still get something out of it (inspiration for drawings?). I know poor Ratigan! Although, technically we didn't see him die....But if they did, who would they get to do his voice? How can find someone to replace Vincent Price as his voice?
But come to think of it...House of Mouse had Basil, Dawsen, and Ratigan in one episode.

Yes, they did! Although it is very short--its HoM first season episode 10 titled Donald's Lamp Trade and they have it on youtube. If you search for it on there then its the first video that comes up and their appearance is at 4:11. I had to find it for you so you can see it!

It was hinted to me that there may be other episodes of HoM with Basil in them! I've never seen these other appearances but then I've only watched a few episodes so let me know if you ever see them!

Yeah, he's a great villain! He's evil and he knows it so he just revels in it. I also want to see more Disney Villains like him--I like to see them take such pleasure from their work! I'm planing on doing more pics of Ratigan smoking.

Yeah, I think that Ratigan really came out so fun and flamboyant because of the wonderful work that Vincent Price did as his voice! I'm sure he really inspired the whole department working on the movie. Definitely need more villains like Ratigan.
I'd like a ring tone of Vincent Price laughing--wouldn't that be great? Every single time the phone rang you would get chills--and weird looks!

XD! Yes, and the ending action scene probably didn't help those kids like rats either. Little known fact--I've had 3 different pet rodents. So yeah, the movie didn't scare me away--it just made me like them more! They are fun to have.
Tell me if ya do the ring tone! I would so freak people out all the time by leaving my phone somewhere and then call it myself just to see their reaction XD! Needless to say Halloween is my fav holiday.
