Cream is Cloudystar's mate even though its against the warrior code AND she is the leader of her clan. Cream eventually joins the clan after being found at the egde of the territory. The patrol who had found him included Cloudystar's own sister who knew about her sisters relationship with the loner and she had been the one who had been the one to insist he joined the clan. The patrol agreed and they took him back to camp. Cloudystar was shocked but glad that she was no longer breaking the warrior code.
