An album cover made as a commission for a coworker (check them out on Spotify under "NorthGuy Holy"). This is a "deluxe" version of a past commission I made for him the following year. In that one, instead of Mars, Earth was being devastated.
When I made that one, it was an exciting endeavor because, to be honest, it is the only piece I had done that didn't contain any characters. I loved taking on a new challenge and problem solving with: "how am I going to make this planet look believable? Even though I've never done this before?" And I finished that one, thinking I wouldn't have to worry about it again. But wouldn't you know, he wanted a deluxe version.
This one was to be even bolder. Straight planetary destruction and intergalactic warfare. Instead of nervousness, I went in with ambition to find a way to make this one look 10x better than the last with knowledge I gained last time and expanding and thinking outside the box.
I accomplished that. The outerglow of the planet, the impact of the meteor, the color of the galaxy, motion blur, detail in the planet.
And as a cherry on top, I added an easter egg. Remember how I said the first album cover was Earth being destroyed instead of Mars? Check out the top right corner. This work tends to be a fan favorite when I ask people what their favorite work by me is.
