Also realizing I haven’t posted my piece for Light Grey Art Lab’s Never Odd or Even show! I wanted to do a piece about the dichotomy of natural disasters being named after saints:
I’m deeply fascinated by the tendency for destructive, natural forces to be given otherwise saintly names. Santa Ana is a fierce, dry wind that bears down on Southern California in late autumn – she’s the patron saint of wildfires and downed trees, but also the herald of crisp, clean air and blue skies in her wake.
…definitely hoping to do a San Andreas companion piece in the near future.

Beautiful and I adore the fact that the Santa Ana winds is a thing, I thought it was some made up name my dad came up with xD I kind of miss them now that I've moved out of state so this was very nostalgic to see! Beautiful religious symbolism and textures

It's funny, growing up in a Cali city near the desert the Santa Ana winds were something to be feared! They would knock over big rigs on the freeway and blow over fences. However, being in Santa Ana? That's a different story entirely. It's only ever a mild wind at the most, but it's really just a gentle breeze most of the time.
I am really looking forward to the rest of this series! I'd like to get this as a bookmark or something down the line.
