I could an ass and be all clinical and technical and comment about your technique and proportions and all that stuff - but I won't.
It's a wonderful and moving piece that truly tells something that so many people can relate to in 10 simply lines.
I was just looking at this again and remembering a very good friend I had who slipped out of my life about a year or two ago.
He was (and I still consider) a wonderful and treasured friend who stood by me when I was alone and unaccepted by many people because of "social norms". He was one of the EXTREMELY few who helped me tide through my (suicidal)depression [among many other things] and helped me find my place in life.
KC, you'll always be missed, and I'll always remember you as a truly wonderful friend and brother.

I guess the main issue here would just simply be the lack of volume and perspective in Altair and Malik. For a lack of a better word, they look... flat. ._.

I think any "happiness" that combat veterans feel after the fighting is over is so highly qualified that it would seem more like misery to us. My father was like that. An absolutely impossible person to live with -- except, fortunately, for my mother, and that was probably because she grew up in a war zone herself and saw her fair share of people depart life "at the hands of His Majesty's enemies," as British coroner's juries put it.
