Description Day 699 - 2 years (and then some.)

So it's been two years. Two years of blood, sweat and tears. Two years of money spent on software, hardware, and tutorial books. Two years of grinding. Two years of failure, and success. Two years of fun.

I remembered when I first started drawing, I was inspired by a streamer on Twitch, she would take 3 years to finish drawing one circle, but she was still entertaining nonetheless. She made art seem.. effortless, almost as if it's an innate ability to just draw what you have in your head. And that inspired me to get my *own* drawing tablet. I went online and picked the cheapest drawing tablet I could find, knowing that this hobby is probably just another spur of the moment, and I'd drop it in a week. I bought a Wacom tablet (the cheapest one) and awaited it's arrival. Meanwhile, I was binge watching art videos. How to draw anime characters, which lead to - how to draw anime faces which lead to - how to draw anime eyes, which lead to.. how to draw a circle.

A circle.

You would think drawing a circle would be easy-peasy. IT IS ANYTHING BUT. Now I know why the streamer took so long to draw a simple circle. It's hard! I would spend hours just practicing on paper just drawing circles like a madlad, and at the end of everything, the paper looked like I was summoning aliens from a distant planet. I then understood why it was so important to understand the fundamentals of drawing. Understanding why you start with simple shapes.. why you.. NAH. I just went ahead and drew whatever the f*ck I wanted.

And that, was the result of this piece. I just jumped into the deep end of the pool. I took the worst possible drawing tablet I could find, started drawing a character which wasn't simple in the slightest, on a software, that was free, but had no idea how it worked. And SOMEHOW, I managed to produce something out of all that.

And while some people might disagree with my decision, it's what brought me here, 699 days later, finishing a piece I never knew I could of the same character I struggled to draw 699 days ago. It is the culmination of learning, progress, and failures and accepting that there's ALWAYS something you can learn and to always take it with a grain of salt.

I never knew I would stick it out this long, but I'm damn as hell glad that I did.

Now the whole point of Zero to Artist was documenting my progress as a beginner to a skill level worthy to be called an artist. The important question to ask myself now is: Am I an Artist? Can I finally graduate from a beginner artist to a regular artist?

Happy 2 Years! And here's to another 2 more.
