Description This set contains HDRIs, props, lights and poses for Genesis 8 to allow you to create deep underwater scenes.  The caustic plane and light shown is included, combined as a scene subset with the very large water volume.  The bubbles are included too, with two other types (the others are both rigged).  The godrays are not postwork; they happen naturally when you shine light into the water volume.

Looks great but I rarely do water renders...

This looks incredibly useful, definitely something I'd be interested in. I'm wondering though, volumetric renders can be resource intensive, what's the render performance like compared to a normal (open air) render?

It is going to be an absolute penance on anything but very current hardware compared to an open-air render with one character and no set (say, using an HDRI as a backdrop).

It will be about the same as a render with more than two characters and no set or a very poly-light set, because of the hardware hit of large textures on characters.

It will be faster than rendering more than two characters in a Jack Tomalin or Stonemason set because then you're paying that big-texture penalty for the set as well as the characters (you want the looks, you pay the hardware price, lol).

I was still able to get the renders done in under 16 hours, as for most products, but I can say the above with some authority because I do a LOT of renders with heavy sets and multiple characters (also see: restraint products and others with interactive poses).

"Don't press your luck.  You're on your honor."

Unless that wasn't a deliberate Morrowind quote.  In that case no, but I like to flail close to the water.

One does not simply quote from Morrowind undeliberately

This isn't out yet is it? It sounds like it has lots of interesting features and I'm looking forward to it. I've only ever done one underwater scene and I had to use a lot of post work, which wasn't very satisfying.

Nope, just went into testing!

I hope it will make those underwater scenes easier for people!

Gah.  This is why I didn't join the Navy.  Just the thought of sinking into that endless blue void... brrr.

I guess this is my way of saying: Well done!

It gives me the deep willies, too.  Part of the reason I was determined to make it.
