Pom: Um... Hi Jack. How's your day?(She's referring to Jack the ripper. As if she was talking to him).

Would you believe I've been watching Jack the Ripper investigation videos on YouTube recently? Personally, I think the Ripper was a very ordinary looking fellow, a proverbial nobody who was never well known under his real name and never associated with anybody famous, but this picture, I think, perfectly captures the Victorians' image of him. Β They were convinced the Ripper had to look horrific in some way. Check out "The Complete Jack the Ripper" by Donald Rumbelow and you'll see what I mean. Β

I agree but its just not as fun to draw as the version of a deformed doctor/murderer. Will check that out for sure.

True, the "horrible" Victorian ideal of Jack the Ripper is much more fun. Sometimes I think it's good that he was never caught. I've had visions of eager thousands waiting outsideΒ the Old Bailey as he's taken to court. And they're disappointed by what they see. Instead of a gruesome fiend, he looks like the local grocer.
Of course, if he turned in a Hannibal Lecter style performance, he could still steal the show. Anthony Hopkins did Lecter with no makeup, I understand.
