You know headcanons, right? Where we fans just make up our own lore and stuff about the characters and/or things from the franchises we love? Yeah I got some too but Im not very open about them I guess. However, there is that one headcanon that I’m quite open (in a subtle way) and it’s the whole “there are two main green Yoshis” thing.

Basically, thanks to the YIDS ending and SMBZ, I like this idea that the green Yoshi from the Yoshi’s Island series or any Mario/Yoshi games that take place in the past is a different character from the green Yoshi that Mario first met in Super Mario World and subsequent games that take place in the present day.

As seen here, the top part shows the young adult (classic) Yoshi telling his events to the Baby (modern) Yoshi with all of the stuff in his speech bubble representing the games that took place in the past. Meanwhile, the bottom part shows the adolescent (modern) Yoshi telling his events to the elder (classic) Yoshi (aka the yoshi village leader) with the stuff he’s bringing up representing the games that took place in the present day (in exception of the Yoshi’s Story heart fruit which took place in the past).

To make their identity less confusing, I tried to make their appearances distinct from one another by making the older Yoshi based on the classic design (specifically the YI one), along with him being the yoshi village leader from Paper Mario 64, while the younger Yoshi is based on the modern design. As someone who likes to explore and experiment the Yoshi designs and their concepts, I’m happy to make use of it for this headcanon of mine lol

So yeah this is just one of the many headcanons that I really like. While Nintendo didn’t really confirmed if this lore is canon or not, I’ll stick by it, regardless. I know not everyone will like this so don’t worry I’m not gonna force this down your throat or anything. It’s just fun idea that I like to share, is all! XD
