I don't know really, I usually don't keep track of the time I spend... Maybe 5 hours or so. The original's size is about the same as the small-sized picture.

Wow. Well it's very very epic. Very very epic indeed.

I think it would've been even more epic if I had represented him with his usual clothes [link] [link]

As I said in a message above: "a famous outsider musician known for his passion for counterpoint and viking outfits". He started as a street muscian, playing his oddly metered music on his own made up percussions and string instruments, then managed to get some recognition and had a career as a composer who brought together the influence of baroque, native american and minimalist music. A pretty cool guy if you ask me.

This is truley amazing! I actually love it.
I'm sure I've grown worse at constructive comments because I really used to be able to put something intelligent, but all I can say to this wow. Maybe it's the picture, it leaves me speachless
Can I ask what materials you used please?

Thanks!
As for the materials, I used a gel ink pen, and some pencil touches.

Welcome
And would you mind terribly if I did
an 'artist copy' (I'm not sure what that
means exactly, but I'm basically drawing it
and saying 'this is a copy of a picture I love
by _____ ) for my art coursework?

Well, I'm very honored ^^
I can't consider that I wholly own the intellectual property of this picture though. It's actually based on a photograph of Louis Thomas Hardin, aka Moondog, a famous outsider musician known for his passion for counterpoint and viking outfits.

Thankyou

*sigh* so beautiful. Love the lines, details, emotions, how every strand seems to carry so much weight in making up the entire image.
