Description Éponine and Enjolras are picked as their District’s Tributes for the Hunger Games.
(sequel: silhouette01.deviantart.com/ar…

After my name was called, everything became hazy and surreal. I couldn’t see beyond a blur, and I couldn’t hear anything except the heartbeat in my ears. How I made it onto the dais, I don’t know. The woman from the Capitol kept talking. She selected a male Tribute. She talked of the honour of the Games. I listened to the blood pounding in my ears.

I’d never been good at math - not at school, and never after - I couldn’t work out the percentages, but I did know that there were twelve districts and that two tributes came from each one. I was one of them, and only one of them ever came out alive. The chances that it would be me were pretty much non-existent.

I had never been more afraid in my life.

Deep down inside I already knew I was dead. Twenty-three other Tributes - and one of them was standing right next to me. Today we were compatriots, bound together by our mutual fear and dread - in just a few weeks from now we would be forced to be mortal enemies. Fearfully, I managed to turn my head slightly so that I could see him, certain that I would see on his face the same terror I was sure was mirrored on mine. To my great surprise, I did not. He didn’t look in the least bit afraid. In stark contrast to my cringing posture and terror-frozen face, he stood proud and perfectly straight, his shoulders thrown back, his head held high, and on his face an expression of contemptuous defiance.

I know full well that whenever I draw directly onto the tablet, whatever it is I’m drawing sucks. End of story. And yet for some reason, I persist in doing exactly that. Maybe because drawing on the tablet has stress-relieving properties that outweigh the suckiness of the final product, who knows. All I know is, that, except for Éponine’s expression, I think I may just be improving.

This is so nice! Is this really a story? If so, can you give me a link?

Thank you. Unfortunately no, (which is sad, because I'd love to read something like this!) it's just a little drabble I wrote to go with the picture.

WHAT?!?*flips table vehemently in protest* YOUR TABLETS SKILLS ARE SUPERB, SECOND TO NONE, EXEMPLARY!

Why, when I look back and see the awesome art gifts you made for,(That awesome picture of Dieter and Achim FANSERVICE!!! and the duel between Dieter and Asmodeus) it amazes me to no end how you spin marvelous art like a wizard.
With me, just working with traditional, it's like pulling eyeteeth with a pair pliers.

Gads, did you write this? I have never read the Hunger Games, but if you penned this all down from your own, then by gum from India, you must pursue writing!

Also, Enjolars looks he is about to start a flash revolution mob right where he is standing, and Eponine must have perceived so.

So first of all: your tablet drawing skills are far better than you are giving them credit for! And I'm sure as you keep at it you will be happier with them. I like both of their expressions a lot, and also your color palette choices always look natural.

Nextly: I'm only vaguely aware of what is going on in the whole Hunger Games phenomenon, but as far as I can tell, Enjolras is taking that government DOWN.

Thank you so much! I’m so happy you like it. The trick with PS is to dab a spot of the colour you want on, say, 60% opacity, over the background, then pick that up with the eyedropper and put it on full opacity and *then* do your colouring. It helps make sure everything looks natural and no colours leap out of the picture and stab you in the eyes.

Basically: yes.

The problem with watching a movie like ‘The Hunger Games’ with Les Mis on the brain is that you’re seeing this dystopian setup and every five minutes you’re wondering, “Why do the people stand for it? Why don’t they just build a bunch of barricades and revolt already, dammit?! If there is no revolution before the end of this movie I will be very disappointed.” (There was a riot, but no revolution - but I wasn’t too upset because I later learned it’s the first in a trilogy of books so I guess they have to leave some action for later…….) I was probably only twenty or so minutes in when I paused the movie to draw this pic.

Lol, that is good tip for photoshop coloring. I'll bear that in mind if I ever decide to experiment.

I've heard mixed reviews of the books... Lots of people are crazy about them, some more lukewarm. Though I'm usually okay with made up fantasy names, I think the Hunger Games ones have potential to throw me a lot. I want to find and replace them as Kate and Peter and then maybe I'll read the book.

I honestly don't think I'll ever bother to read the actual books. It was a really good and original idea, but somehow the thought of reading the actual books makes me go "meh". I will definitely watch the other movies though - I am emotionally invested enough to stick around for my revoltion. And there had better BE one!!

Thank you! I'm very pleasantly surprised that there's someone else out there who likes my crazy ideas....

I wasn't actually planning more, but if the inspiration strikes, I certainly shall.
