Aah, I know what it is! The ear is positioned slightly high on the side of his head; it unfortunately throws the position and perspective off. I say unfortunately because this really is a gorgeous picture otherwise, and displays a brilliant grasp of both the character and the techniques necessary to pull off a piece like this. I'd love to see the finished version!

Really good drawing. The only thing I see that could be improved is the ear (maybe make it a bit less wide) but other than that it's perfect.
