[Tōhō Yōyōmu ⁓ Perfect Cherry Blossom (PC-9801 style)]
Marisa Kirisame vs Yuyuko Saigyōji

What if this game were made not just for modern Windows-based IBM-compatible PCs, but for a long-forgotten (well, not exactly long-forgotten to a sizeable gaming community) computing platform: the NEC PC-9801 family of computers?

This was a collaborative effort between me, two other Deviants, two Twitters, and one YouTuber (all of us also Discord users):
MrTremoloMeasure (for his portrait of Yuyuko Saigyouji )
Uzuzumi (藤岡渦済み, for her smol field sprite of Yuyuko, whose colors were slightly adjusted by me for consistency with Tremolo’s portrait above)
Zo-me (for her dialog portrait of Marisa Kirisame, whose braid ribbon was recolored by me)
weedeater (who wrote the “runes” around the octagrammic magic circle that I drew myself and placed beneath Yuyuko)
Tom (for the cherry-blossom petals scattered around the background; and for his custom extended gaiji font incorporating English HUD labels –presumably also meant for his own pet-project fangame– which I incorporated into my private bitmap-like TrueType font Gensokyo which is now at version 1.08 and available only to a select few Discord users)

Marisa’s field sprite –obscured by her dialog box– is ZUN’s stock sprite from Mystic Square, recolored by me and edited by Zo-me (who added her signature single sidebraid).

Although I would have loved to realize this as an actual screenshot from a modified Mystic Square game engine (using Tom’s Mystic Square Toolkit (MSTK)), I had no time to do it, so I assembled all assets above into a GIMP 2.10 mockup (still adhering to the strict PC-98 color and tile-count restrictions), thus qualifying this as a genuine, plausible, hardware-correct “fakeshot”. This “screenshot” has been used on my own legit PC-9801 chiptune music cover of Yuyuko’s boss theme Bloom Nobly, Ink-Black Cherry Blossom ~ Border of Life.
