Description So I was thinking about how I felt like Pumbaa should've had a backstory in The Lion King 1 1/2 because not only would that have allowed the viewers to learn more about Pumbaa but him having a family would've allowed for this movie to introduce more characters since we only really got 2 (or 5 if you wanna count Iron Joe, Timon's father, and Fearless Buzz (the latter two of which I recently discovered were two different characters, I honestly thought Timon's dad was Buzz)), so I came up with a new character for TLK 1 1/2

So here we have Pumbaa's single dad, Baba. Like Timon's Ma, he is not referred to by name and is instead only addressed by his parental title throughout the film (Baba is Swahili for "Dad"). Baba is very sweet and very supportive and protective of his son. He promised himself he would be more protective after Pumbaa's mother passed away off-screen (idk it's up to you whatever happened to her I guess)

Also Baba and Pumbaa's native dwelling is some kind of jungle, possibly some outskirt of the Oasis/Hakuna Matata Falls (idk it's wherever Pumbaa was when he starts singing about his past during the Hakuna Matata scene), which is why he has knowledge about this Oasis during the scene in TLK 1 1/2 when he tells Timon about a place to live

Here, a young Pumbaa is too shy to make friends, Baba is telling him that what it takes to make friends is what comes from inside. Unfortunately, that quite literally happens when Pumbaa accidentally passes gas when attempting to introduce himself to other jungle-dwellers. When others run away from Pumbaa, fall unconscious from the stench, or shame him for his impolite behavior, Pumbaa runs away in embarrassment, away to what would be the Pridelands, where he would cross paths with Timon. Like Timon's Ma, Baba goes on a search to find his son, as he cannot afford to lose another family member. At the same time Timon reunites with his Ma, Baba reunites with Pumbaa and tells him he was able to recognize his unmistakable scent.

I know Baba's design isn't awfully original, it's basically Pumbaa but darker/redder and with a mustache, bushy eyebrows, and smaller, further-apart eyes. The mustache idea comes from when I saw pictures of Remake Pumbaa and noticed he had whiskers on the sides of his mouth. Also sadly no I did not draw that jungle backdrop, I nabbed it from a TLK screenshot and tweaked the colors and transparency a bit, I wonder if I should've just drew it

No offense, but does have family and a backstory in a Lion King magazine story called All Mudd and the Motor Mouth, as well as various relatives and backstory from Timon & Pumbaa.

The Timon and Pumbaa Show I don't think we can reference and treat as canon. It's obviously meant to be comedic, and it showed us a whole different backstory for Timon as well, involving a love interest.

Yes, but as I said, there's also the Disney magazine story, "All Mud and Motor Mouth", which gives a Pumbaa a backstory and unnamed family members (a ma, pa, brothers and sisters). He used to love wallowing in mud (most likely a reference to something dropped from early scripts, which can be seen in concept art for Warthog Rhapsody), which made him stinky. His family eventually told him to choose mud wallowing or them. He chose mud wallowing and left. He later runs into Timon, who's a jerk. He saves Timon's life (I think from a snake, but I could be wrong), but Timon didn't realize he was in danger, and thus gets mad at Pumbaa because he pushed him in mud. Pumbaa angrily leaves, and after a while, Timon sees Pumbaa wallowing in mud, unaware of an angry charging rhino. Timon tries to get him (Pumbaa) to move, but he doesn't notice, so Timon clamps two rocks on his tail to get him to move. After a bit of fighting, the two become best friends.

Also, while Timon & Pumbaa can be considered non-canon, or at least an AU, I will point out that the meerkat who goes "Dig!" at the end of Digga Tunnah looks very similar to Timon's practical-joking friend Fred from said show, and Pumbaa's never given any real backstory or relatives in the films or TLG, so it's possible to reference, feature, and/or redesign characters and/or events from the show, like how Kirroc blends various materials to make her own her stories.

But the story you're sharing with me right now again includes a whole different meeting between Timon and Pumbaa; so it can't be connected with the movie trilogy or the cartoon show, as both have presented their own interpretations. So then, would you accept the family members introduced in that Disney Magazine, but not everything else and only consider the 3rd movie as the one true meeting of Timon and Pumbaa? In canon, you can't pick and choose like that. If you do so, that falls under fanfiction.
The first and third movie clearly state that Pumbaa's smell is solely thanks to his gas problem, not mud. And more importantly, that Pumbaa is heartbroken over being alone. Why would he settle with being smelly if his family would've cured his feelings of ostracisation? Unfinalized deleted scenes don't matter, it's deleted for a reason.

That's a tremendous stretch to call a random blond meerkat, standing next to other similar-looking meerkats, a look-a-like of the cartoony red-nosed, bucktoothed Fred.

Where I'm getting at with my response is that Silver Wolf's drawing is equally as legit as the Disney magazine and TV-show.

Ooooh I like that idea

You think the mustache and eyebrows were a subconscious thing when you designed Baba? Considering you actually remember him now

Boaris and Remake Pumbaa probably went back-and-forth as inspiration for Baba's design come to think of it, I can't remember which of the two I thought of when visualizing Baba's design first, however

Well since Timon’s mom is voiced by Julie Kavner

Why not make it full circle

Nice to see Pumba having a loving papa

I've seen only two versions of his father who was pictured as abusive one, so nice change
